Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Shinichi Yanagida (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Takanori Sakurai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sakurai has chosen number girl syndrome as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Shinichi Yanagida!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Takanori Sakurai !
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Hirohito Nitta and Shirou Masuda.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sakurai feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Sakurai is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Yanagida is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Yanagida has escaped and now he's on top!
Sakurai is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Yanagida has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Yanagida stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.

Sakurai tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Sakurai has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

The strikes coming from Sakurai are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Sakurai looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Sakurai throws an elbow but Yanagida slips to the side and avoids it well.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Yanagida is trying to buck Sakurai off.
Sakurai is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Yanagida is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Yanagida wants to get back to his feet but Sakurai drags him back down.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Sakurai scores a takedown into full mount!
Sakurai swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Yanagida is now in Sakurai 's guard. A big mistake from Sakurai there, giving up the dominant position!

Yanagida darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Yanagida looks to score with a jab to the body but Sakurai is just out of range.
Yanagida misses with the combination.
Sakurai walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Yanagida cracks Sakurai with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Takanori Sakurai seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sakurai tries to score a power double leg takedown but Yanagida sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Sakurai somewhat.

Yanagida stuffs the takedown attempt from Sakurai . Sakurai gets slowly back to his feet.

Sakurai jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Yanagida walks away with a smile on his face. Sakurai gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Yanagida throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Yanagida jabs at Sakurai 's body.
The crowd cheers as Yanagida lands an impressive looking overhand right. Sakurai doesn't seem phased though.
Sakurai shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Yanagida defends it nicely.
Yanagida throws a right and a left that both miss.
Nice uppercut there from Yanagida.
Sakurai shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Yanagida but Yanagida pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Yanagida tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Sakurai paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Shinichi Yanagida is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Yanagida misses with a series of wild punches.
Sakurai tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Sakurai bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Yanagida bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!

Yanagida is trying to break the clinch but Sakurai has him pressed against the cage.
Sakurai tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Yanagida smiles and moves away.

Yanagida doesn't manage to clinch there - Sakurai circles away.
Sakurai shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Yanagida is trying to defend but Sakurai finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Sakurai is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Yanagida defends it well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Yanagida is looking to escape.

Sakurai is pressing down on Yanagida's thigh, looking to free his foot. Yanagida is holding on for now.

Yanagida scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Sakurai manages to mount him!
Sakurai moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Yanagida has worked his arm free - good work by Yanagida!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Yanagida wants to get back to his feet.
The ground and pound from Sakurai seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Sakurai scores with a couple of short elbows.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!
Sakurai shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Yanagida as he jumps to the side.
Yanagida throws a series of punches but Sakurai avoids them all with ease.
Yanagida throws a jab but it's blocked by Sakurai .
Yanagida swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
A head kick misses from Sakurai .
Sakurai shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Yanagida but Yanagida pushes him off and we're back to square one.

A combination from Yanagida does no damage.
Yanagida tries to bum rush Sakurai with a series of wild strikes but Sakurai uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Yanagida fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Yanagida misses the shot to the body.
Sakurai dives in and grabs Yanagida's left leg, looking for a takedown. Yanagida pushes down on Sakurai 's head and hops out.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Sakurai postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Yanagida is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Sakurai , into his guard.
Yanagida stands up from guard. Let's bang!

The fight stays on the outside here - Yanagida looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Yanagida stuffs the takedown attempt from Sakurai . Sakurai gets slowly back to his feet.
Sakurai shoots in for a takedown but Yanagida shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Yanagida will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Sakurai misses with a takedown attempt - Yanagida sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Yanagida dips to his left and cracks Sakurai with an uppercut!
Sakurai throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Sakurai has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Yanagida finds it's way round the side to connect with Sakurai 's head.
Sakurai takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Sakurai .
A jab lands there for Yanagida.
Yanagida throws a body punch but Sakurai moves out of range.
Yanagida throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Sakurai drops his hands momentarily and Yanagida takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

Sakurai changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Yanagida tries to avoid it but Sakurai manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Yanagida to the ground. Yanagida escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Sakurai has his foot on Yanagida's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Yanagida works his way back into a safe position though.
Yanagida has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Sakurai is proving hard to escape from.
Sakurai is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Yanagida is aware though and is defending well.
Sakurai working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Yanagida has passed into half guard!
