PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jack Ripper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mauri Saarinen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ripper's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, The Odorants - This Night. Mauri Saarinen is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jack Ripper!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mauri Saarinen!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Tarja Halkonen and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ripper moves in looking to clinch but Saarinen pushes him off.
Ripper throws a wild body kick that Saarinen sees coming a mile off.
Ripper looks to throw the jab but Saarinen is out of range.
Ripper loads up on a big right hand but Saarinen slips the punch.

Saarinen closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Saarinen throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Ripper is trying to maintain the position but Saarinen is very close to passing his half guard.
Saarinen prevents Ripper from standing back up.
Saarinen slips a nice elbow through Ripper's hands, connecting with Ripper's forehead.
Ripper tries to get to full guard but Saarinen has control of the leg.
Saarinen scoring with strikes to the body and head.

Ripper looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Ripper wants to control but Saarinen is keeping busy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ripper on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ripper trying to control but Saarinen postures up.
Ripper won't allow Saarinen to pass to mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Saarinen sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Ripper defending well though.
Ripper trying to control but Saarinen postures up.
Saarinen wants to take a breather but Ripper is having none of it.
Ripper is looking to control Saarinen's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Ripper avoid being mounted?
Ripper is looking for a sweep. Saarinen is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Ripper throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Ripper misses with a head kick.
Ripper doesn't manage to clinch there - Saarinen circles away.

Saarinen shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Ripper napping and manages to drive through into side control!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Ripper struggling a bit here.
Saarinen lands some shots froms side control.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Saarinen lands a decent elbow from side control.
Ripper tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Saarinen wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Saarinen looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Saarinen tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Ripper really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ripper sneaks back into half guard.
Ripper wants to control but Saarinen is keeping busy.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Saarinen slips under a jab from Ripper.
Ripper looks to throw the jab but Saarinen is out of range.
Saarinen keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Ripper.
Ripper tries to land a front kick but Saarinen steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Ripper throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Saarinen sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Ripper is looking to clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Ripper tries to clinch there but Saarinen circles away.
Saarinen walks into a jab.
Ripper misses with a head kick.
Saarinen uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Ripper.
Ripper throws a head kick but Saarinen moves out of range.
Ripper throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Saarinen sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Saarinen slips under a jab.

Saarinen shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Saarinen scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Ripper?
Ripper is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Saarinen landing strikes from the mount and Ripper is in trouble!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Ripper is desperately trying to improve his position but Saarinen has a good base and remains in mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mauri Saarinen dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Ripper tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Saarinen looks for a takedown but Ripper sprawls well.
A slow jab from Ripper misses its intended target.
Ripper tries to clinch there but Saarinen circles away.
Saarinen looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Ripper is fending him off so far but Saarinen persists. Nope, Ripper circles away and we're back to standing.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Saarinen.
Jack Ripper has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mauri Saarinen.
Saarinen shoots for a double leg takedown but Ripper sprawls well. He's pushed Saarinen's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ripper misses with a kick to the body.
Ripper connects with a high kick.

Ripper lands a big head kick that sends Saarinen tumbling to the mat! Ripper takes a step backwards and waves Saarinen back to his feet - he wants the finish!


Saarinen is rocked!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Both fighters circling slowly here as the pace drops. Hopefully one of them does someth.. OOOHHHH!!!! Ripper throws an absolute beast of a head kick! Saarinen is done! He's out cold, twisted and contorted up against the cage! Wow!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:03 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Jack Ripper!
