The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Leandro Rodrigues and Emerson Jorge.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Penn misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Penn shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says lachida as he avoids it easily.
lachida fails in his attempt to clinch.
lachida tries to close the distance and clinch up but Penn swats him away and circles back towards the center.
lachida keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Penn changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. lachida tries to avoid it but Penn manages to keep hold of a leg and drag lachida to the ground. lachida escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for JD Penn. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Penn is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

lachida doesn't have the hooks in and Penn manages to turn into his guard.
Penn decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on lachida, up you get!

JD Penn seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and lachida decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Penn's guard.
Penn working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. lachida doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Penn is tightening it up a little... lachida has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! lachida reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! lachida taps out! nice BJJ there by Penn!
