Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Marcus Volette! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Nathan Matos! The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Dillan Fox and Robert Douchet.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Volette misses with a double jab.
Volette feints and then cracks Matos's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Matos down. Volette lands with a thumping leg kick.
Some wild striking there from Volette.
Volette shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Volette showed some decent athleticism there. Volette sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Matos defending well though. Volette trying to control the action but Matos is working from the bottom. Volette is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Matos tries to kick Volette off but Volette keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Matos won't allow Volette to pass to mount. Volette is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Volette throws a half hearted mid kick. Matos feints and as Volette raises his hands in defense, Matos changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Volette is breathing heavily. Matos stands up and waves to Volette to follow him. Volette is trying hard to land a takedown here. Matos sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. A telegraphed right hand from Volette misses the target. Volette misses with a two punch combination.
Matos drops Volette with a nice combination! Matos dives into Volette's guard, looking to finish!
It looks like Marcus Volette has been cut.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Matos stands up from guard. Let's bang! Matos catches Volette napping and connects with a big right hand that sends Volette to the canvas!
Volette is rocked! Matos gets to his feet. Volette looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Matos shoots for a takedown but Volette saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Matos closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Volette to the mat! Volette manages to get full guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Matos gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Matos shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Volette napping and manages to drive through into side control! Matos decides to take the fight back to the feet. Volette thows a body shot but no joy.

and Matos counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Volette wants to clinch and Matos counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Matos stands up out of the half guard. Matos closes this distance looking for a takedown but Volette circles away. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Matos throws a head kick that misses. Matos swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Matos. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Nathan Matos dominated that round. The cut man is working on Marcus Volette's cut. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Matos checks a leg kick. Volette fails with a takedown attempt. Matos closes the distance and clinches. Volette jumps guard but Matos stands there with Volette around his waist. Volette gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Volette has Matos pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Matos manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Marcus Volette. That's going to take a lot out of him. Volette is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Matos pulls him back up using the underhooks. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Matos has had enough of the clinch but Volette keeps him there for the moment.

Matos pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Volette tumbling to the mat - Matos dives into Volette's guard. Matos decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Volette has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Volette there as he acknowledges the shot.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Matos thuds his right hand into Volette's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters. Marcus Volette is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Matos pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Volette takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Oh Volette is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Matos wants to clinch. Volette seems to have got his legs back now. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Matos with a nice cross. Matos scores a takedown into full mount! Matos gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

Matos closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Volette did well to prevent Matos getting side control. Matos decides to stand up. Volette throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
letting Matos counter with a right hand. Matos has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Volette throws a front kick aimed at Matos's knee but Matos avoids it well.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Matos fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Volette misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Matos counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Matos. Matos is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Volette pulls him back up using the underhooks. Matos manages to break the clinch.
Volette shoots and misses and Matos counters with a series of strikes. Volette will be more careful next time no doubt. Marcus Volette seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Volette scores with a slapping inside leg kick. Matos clinches up against the cage. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Matos goes for a takedown attempt but Volette pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Volette doesn't succeed with the takedown and Matos counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Volette's guard now. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matos throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Volette on the side of the head. Volette throws a head kick that misses and Matos counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Volette shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Matos as he jumps to the side. Volette tries for a takedown but Matos circles away easily so Matos counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Matos gets to his feet. and Matos counters with a single leg into guard. Volette didn't expect that. Matos decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Volette, up you get! Volette throws a combination that misses and Matos counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Volette! This has been an exciting period of action! Matos trying to control but he's not successful this time. Volette manages to regain half guard. Good work. Volette is trying to stand.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Matos postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Volette to stand up. Matos shoots in for a takedown but Volette shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Volette throws a combination that misses and Matos connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Volette tries to clinch but Matos moves away and Matos counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Matos. Volette wants to get back to his feet but Matos is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Matos gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Volette tries to close the distance and clinch but Matos swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Matos fails to land the takedown. An inside leg kick lands from Volette. Nathan Matos seems to be getting the better of the standup. Volette fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Matos checks it well. Matos shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Marcus Volette has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nathan Matos. Volette will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Matos keeps the fight on the outside. Volette misses with a combination
and Matos counters with a nice double leg into side control. Volette won't be happy with that.

Matos tries for a takedown but Volette sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. A good leg kick by Volette. Matos swats away the attempt to clinch by Volette. Marcus Volette has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Nathan Matos is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Matos tests Volette's chin there with a solid looking shot.
And that's the end of the fight! Nathan Matos comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Matos has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
