1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jim Jones! The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Felipe Paraventi and Thiago Cunha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Persson fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Persson swats away the attempt to clinch by Jones. Jones fails with an attempt to clinch.
Persson shoots in for a double leg but Jones sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Persson misses with a takedown attempt - Jones sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Fredrik Persson. Persson wants to clinch but Jones slips to the side and Jones counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Persson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch. Jones tries a knee to the head but Persson blocks it.
Persson wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Jones has him pressed against the cage. Jones lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Persson backwards. Jones tries a knee to the head but Persson blocks it.

Persson tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Jones swivels and escapes. Jones looks to clinch letting Persson counter with a right hand. Jones doesn't manage to clinch there - Persson circles away.

Jones lands an elbow inside. Persson tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Jones just stands there and leans against the cage. Jones connects with a knee to the head.

Persson gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Jones moves into the clinch. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Persson decides to pull guard. Jones sitting in guard here, content to control. Jones really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Persson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Persson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jones doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Jones manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Persson had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Jones is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Persson Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Jones's back instead. Jones is trying to escape under a series of strikes and manages to escape from Persson 's hooks. Persson is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Jones is surviving well by controlling Persson's body position as best he can. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Persson pushing down on Jones's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Jones can do anything to dispel that myth. Persson wants to work for an arm triangle but Jones is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Jones tries to get to full guard but Persson has control of the leg. Persson thows a huge punch but Jones dodges it nicely.

Persson frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Persson has control of Jones's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Jones regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Jones tries to hold on but Persson postures up. Persson is working close to his opponent, looking to work a submission by the looks of things. Oh, he's managed to get a guillotine from mount as his opponent reached up! That looks tiiiiight! Will he tap? YES, he's tapped! Impressive submission by Persson!
