Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Daryl Abbott! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Michael Martinez! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Martinez keeps the fight on the outside. Martinez swats away the attempt to clinch by Abbott. Abbott tries a head kick but it misses.
Abbott shoots in for a double leg but Martinez sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Abbott shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Abbott showed some decent athleticism there. Abbott wants to stand up but Martinez is controlling the position.
Martinez is trying to get back to full guard. Martinez wants to control but Abbott is keeping busy.
Martinez is looking for a sweep. Abbott is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Martinez looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Abbott pushes past his half guard into mount! Abbott wants to take his opponent's back but he's not managed it. Abbott wants to get back to his feet but Martinez is holding on tight.
Abbott prevents Martinez from getting the reversal. Martinez is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Abbott is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Martinez is surviving well by controlling Abbott's body position as best he can. Martinez is looking to improve his position but Abbott isn't that keen on the idea.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Abbott throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Martinez because Abbott loaded up on that one. Abbott has control of Martinez's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Martinez regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Abbott swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Martinez is now in Abbott's guard. A big mistake from Abbott there, giving up the dominant position! Martinez drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Martinez jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Martinez wants to control from the top but Abbott keeps moving. Abbott working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Martinez doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Martinez manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Martinez pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Abbott is keeping the position for now.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Martinez lands a couple of decent looking shots. Martinez passes easily into side control. Nice work. Abbott tries to improve position but can't. Martinez trying to control the action but Abbott is working from the bottom. Martinez is trying to get an arm triangle but Abbott is defending well. Martinez looks gassed! Martinez has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Abbott! Abbott is trying desperately to improve position. Martinez controlling from mount. Martinez jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Abbott manages to avoid the submission attempt.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Martinez thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Abbott wants to get back to his feet. You can see the frustration on Abbott's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Martinez tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Abbott wants to control but Martinez postures up. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Michael Martinez will probably get the nod. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Horrible takedown by Abbott or perhaps it was just good defense by Martinez which made him look bad. Daryl Abbott seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Abbott changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Martinez tries to avoid it but Abbott manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Martinez to the ground. Martinez escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Abbott throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Abbott shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Martinez as he avoids it easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Daryl Abbott. That's going to take a lot out of him. Martinez stuffs the takedown attempt from Abbott. Abbott gets slowly back to his feet. Martinez fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Abbott sprawls well initially but Martinez persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Abbott is defending against the submission attempts here by Martinez.
Martinez maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Abbott could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Martinez has cracked it and Abbott is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Martinez!
