Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, nathin Q! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, chris stevens! The judges for this bout are , and .
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Q closes the distance and clinches up with stevens, looking for a takedown. Q pushes stevens against the cage but stevens circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Q swats away the attempt to clinch by stevens. stevens throws a series of punches but Q moves out of range. stevens tries to clinch there but Q circles away.
stevens has his takedown stuffed so Q counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Q thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Q trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. stevens is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Q looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Q gets full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Q escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. stevens gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. stevens trying to control but Q is working from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. stevens tries to free his leg and advance position but Q is retaining full guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. stevens wants to control from the top but Q keeps moving. stevens postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
nathin Q dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
stevens throws the left hand but Q avoids the punch easily. Q checks a leg kick. chris stevens is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. stevens misses with a jab, cross combination.
stevens lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Q at a distance.
stevens lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
stevens misses the body punch and Q counters with a nice double leg into side control. stevens won't be happy with that. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Q trying to control the action but stevens is working from the bottom. stevens wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
That's one minute gone in the round. Q working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Q tries to advance to mount but can't. stevens is trying to improve his position. Q is trying to get an arm triangle but stevens is defending well. stevens struggling a bit here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Q wants to control but stevens is keeping him busy. stevens is trying to control Q's posture but Q avoids it. Q wants to control but stevens is keeping him busy. stevens really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Q. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Q is trying to get an arm triangle but stevens is defending well. stevens sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Q is looking for a kimura but stevens is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Q to get the leverage. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Q not doing much here.
stevens is trying to maintain the position but Q is very close to passing his half guard. Q wants to control but stevens is keeping him busy. Q wants to work for an arm triangle but stevens is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Q is thwarting stevens's attempts to control the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Q is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. stevens stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. stevens rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Q moves out of range and avoids them all easily. stevens misses with a combination
and Q counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Q pushes down on stevens's leg and manages to get into half guard. stevens is refusing to be controlled, as Q sits in half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that nathin Q will probably get the nod. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!
A combination from stevens does no damage. stevens looks to land a combination but Q avoids it well. stevens misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
stevens gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Q counters with a takedown into side control. Q tries to advance to mount but stevens denies him. Q trying to control the action but stevens is working from the bottom. stevens struggling a bit here.
That's one minute gone in the round. stevens is not content to let Q control the position. The referee tells the fighters to keep busy. Q is looking to take a break and control but stevens is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. stevens is looking to regain half guard here but Q keeps moving and retains side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. stevens scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
stevens misses with a low kick. A combination from stevens does no damage. Q shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. stevens defends it nicely. Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by stevens!
stevens throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Q avoids a punch combination nicely.
stevens rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Q moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. stevens swinging wildly here.
Jab by stevens. stevens throws a left and a right that both miss
and Q counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in stevens's guard now. stevens keeping moving, preventing Q from controlling successfully. stevens can't keep his opponent in guard - Q advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Q uses his free foot to push down on stevens's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for stevens. stevens tries to hold on but Q postures up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Q forces the positional change into back control. Q tightening his grip on stevens, looking for the choke. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Q patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here? The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Q's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
Q not allowing stevens to control his hands.
And that's the end of the fight! nathin Q showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Q, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
