PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Eric Rogers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Duke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Eric Rogers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Frank Duke!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Damien Edna and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rogers throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Duke's waist but Duke gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Rogers off to one side.

Duke gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Rogers goes for a takedown attempt but Duke pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Rogers on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Duke misses with a takedown attempt

and Rogers counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Rogers drops back looking for a leg! Duke is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Duke manages to kick Rogers off! Rogers jumps back into Duke's guard.
Duke looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Duke wants to stand and escape but Rogers is having none of it.

Rogers drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Rogers jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Rogers thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Rogers is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Duke is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Rogers takes a decent strike to the side of the head.

Rogers drops back looking for a leg! Duke is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Duke manages to kick Rogers off! Rogers jumps back into Duke's guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Duke lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Rogers backs up against the cage.
Rogers stuffs the takedown attempt from Duke. Duke gets slowly back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rogers doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Duke counters with a good low kick that Rogers was not able to check.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Eric Rogers. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Duke shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Duke showed some decent athleticism there.
Duke thows a huge punch but Rogers dodges it nicely.
Duke throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Duke throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Rogers looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Duke not doing much here.
Duke really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rogers. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

It looks like Duke is going to stand back up.
Duke throwing shots but Rogers is blocking nicely.
Duke is keen to just control but Rogers is a slippery customer.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Duke shoots in for a takedown but Rogers shows good takedown defense.

Duke drives through with a takedown into guard.
Rogers preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Duke controlling from the top position.
Duke trying to control but Rogers is working from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Rogers keeping full guard, as Duke tries to pass.
Rogers keeping moving, preventing Duke from controlling successfully.
Duke might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Rogers kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Rogers has his foot on Duke's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Duke works his way back into a safe position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Frank Duke dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!



Rogers gets caught flat footed, as Duke shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Duke wants to stand but Rogers is controlling his posture from full guard.
Duke trying to control but Rogers is working from the bottom.

Rogers is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Duke has his hands clasped together but Rogers extends an breaks Duke's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Rogers.
