The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jones will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Johnson could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Jones dives in and grabs Johnson's left leg, looking for a takedown. Johnson pushes down on Jones's head and hops out. Johnson shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Jones's guard. Johnson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jones swivels though and keeps the full guard. Jones thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Jones can do anything to dispel that myth. Johnson wants to control from the top but Jones keeps moving. Johnson thows a big elbow that misses. Johnson wants to sweep but no luck. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Johnson manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Jones manages to get himself to full guard.
Jones has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Johnson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Johnson trying to control but Jones is working from the bottom. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Jones gets the takedown into side control. Johnson tries to get back to half guard but can't. Johnson is not content to let Jones control the position. Johnson is looking for a sweep.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Johnson prevents Jones from improving position. Johnson tries to buck Jones off but Jones is having none of it. Jones decides to stand back up. Jones steps back and let's Johnson get back to his feet. Johnson fails with an attempt to clinch.

Dustin Johnson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Johnson tries to score a power double leg takedown but Jones sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Johnson somewhat. Jones misses with a takedown and Johnson counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Jones! Jones is wriggling around trying to escape.
