Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Frans Aki! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Josh Taylor! The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Anni Minnemäki and Johanna Lukiainen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Taylor fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Aki is looking to clinch but Taylor is avoiding it.
Taylor closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Aki did well to prevent Taylor getting side control. Taylor is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Taylor is thwarting Aki's attempts to control the position. Taylor is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Taylor seems to be looking for submissions.
Aki pushes Taylor off looking to stand but Taylor dives back in and keeps control.
Aki preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head. Taylor is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
That's one minute gone in the round. Taylor looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Taylor looks gassed! Taylor sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Aki defending well though. Aki is trying to stand back up but Taylor is controlling him
Aki moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Taylor preventing the sweep.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Taylor accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Aki wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. Aki keeping moving, preventing Taylor from controlling successfully. Aki keeping full guard, as Taylor tries to pass. Aki had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Taylor defends it easily. Taylor postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Taylor drops back looking for a leg! Aki is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Aki manages to kick Taylor off! Taylor jumps back into Aki's guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Aki moves into the clinch successfully.
Taylor works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard. Taylor loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Taylor pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Aki is keeping the position for now. Taylor passes easily into side control. Nice work. Aki knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Taylor on the ground. Taylor has hold of Aki's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Aki tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Taylor cranks the arm and Aki screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Aki, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
