PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between George Lighting (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and D Unit (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, George Lighting!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, D Unit!
The judges for this bout are , and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Unit fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Lighting, pushing him back against the cage.
Unit with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
Unit is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Lighting is defending well for now.
Lighting jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Unit walks away with a smile on his face. Lighting gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Unit tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Lighting paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Lighting looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Unit is fending him off so far but Lighting persists. Nope, Unit circles away and we're back to standing.

Unit has closed the distance and engaged Lighting in a clinch.
Lighting tries to pull guard but Unit holds him up against the cage and eventually Lighting drops back down to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for George Lighting. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Lighting takes a knee to the side of the body.
Unit tries to land knees in the clinch but Lighting avoids the damage to the body.
Lighting fails to pull guard.
Lighting jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Unit walks away with a smile on his face. Lighting gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Unit gets caught flat footed, as Lighting shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Unit keeping moving, preventing Lighting from controlling successfully.

Lighting drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Unit manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Lighting has Unit in his guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Unit stands up and waves to Lighting to follow him.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Unit has managed to clinch.
Unit misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Lighting.
Lighting on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Unit tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Unit trying to land knees to the body.
Lighting tries to score a body lock takedown but Unit shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Unit connects with a knee to the head.
Lighting avoiding damage as Unit throws knees to the body.
Unit trying to land knees to the body.
Lighting wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Unit is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Lighting is defending well for now.

Unit misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Lighting.

Lighting gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Lighting is keen to just control but Unit is a slippery customer.

Lighting is looking to stall here but Unit recovers full guard.
Lighting tries to free his leg and advance position but Unit is retaining full guard.
Lighting is looking to work some ground and pound but Unit has wrist control.
Lighting missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Lighting wants to control from the top but Unit keeps moving.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Unit has a closed guard, preventing Lighting from standing up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lighting trying to control the position from guard on top but Unit is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Lighting shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Lighting showed some decent athleticism there.
Unit is trying to stand up here but Lighting is controlling him well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but D Unit will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Lighting misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Lighting shoots in but no luck this time.
Unit tries to clinch up but Lighting circles away and keeps his distance.
Lighting fails with an attempt to clinch.
George Lighting is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Unit tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Lighting counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Lighting gets the takedown into side control.
Lighting prevents Unit from escaping the position.
Lighting controlling the position from side mount.
Lighting trying to control the action but Unit is working from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lighting looking to control but instead Unit has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard.
Lighting works his way into full mount!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Unit's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Lighting unloading with bombs!
Lighting can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Unit is looking to escape.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Lighting jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Unit is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Unit and Lighting has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Lighting advances nicely into full mount.
Lighting looking to control and managing it successfully.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Lighting throws a strike there. Unit manages to avoid it well and slips a leg under to get to half guard.
Unit is looking to escape.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Lighting tries to pass to full mount but Unit defends it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

George Lighting dominated that second round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Unit keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Unit tries to clinch but Lighting moves away

and Lighting counters with a takedown into side control.
Unit is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

Lighting is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Unit has escaped the position, nice work there.
Lighting is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lighting wants to control for a moment but Unit uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.
Lighting really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Lighting looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Lighting is controlling the pace.
Lighting prevents Unit from standing back up.

Unit is refusing to be controlled, as Lighting sits in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lighting is looking to pass Unit's guard but actually Unit recovers to full guard.
Lighting wants to control from the top but Unit keeps moving.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Lighting stops Unit from standing up.
Lighting is looking to work some ground and pound but Unit has wrist control.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Unit tries to clinch but Lighting moves away

and Lighting counters with a takedown into side control.
Lighting throwing shots but missing, from side control.
Lighting trying to control the action but Unit is working from the bottom.
Sloppy strikes there by Lighting.

And that's the end of the fight!
George Lighting showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Lighting has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
