Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dylan Mcgrath! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Paul Rodgers! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mcgrath is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Mcgrath shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Rodgers's guard. Rodgers is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Mcgrath is controlling him. Rodgers keeping moving, preventing Mcgrath from controlling successfully. Rodgers looking to hit a scissor sweep but Mcgrath is one step ahead there. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Mcgrath accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Mcgrathis looking to pass into half guard but Rodgers pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Rodgers is in guard. Mcgrath doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Rodgers trying to control but Mcgrath is working from the bottom. Mcgrath throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Danga de danga de dang - Rodgers scores with a four punch combination! Mcgrath looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mcgrath throws a looping overhand right but Rodgers ducks down to avoid it. Mcgrath thows a body shot but no joy. Rodgers lands with a slapping head kick. Mcgrath wants to slow Rodgers down by chopping away at his legs. Mcgrath tries to keep at a distance but Rodgers has taken the fight into the clinch. Rodgers tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Mcgrath tries to circle away but Rodgers has him pinned against the cage. Mcgrath is trying to force a seperation but Rodgers has the dominant position. Rodgers wants to get back to striking at distance but Mcgrath won't allow it.
Rodgers is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Mcgrath pulls him back up using the underhooks. Rodgers misses with a knee strike.
Mcgrath wants to break free but Rodgers has control.
Rodgers drops down looking for an ankle pick but Mcgrath pulls his leg out and moves away.
Dylan Mcgrath has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Paul Rodgers. Mcgrath tries to close the distance and clinch but Rodgers swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mcgrath closes the distance and clinches up with Rodgers, looking for a takedown. Mcgrath pushes Rodgers against the cage but Rodgers circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Rodgers fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Rodgers is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Rodgers looks gassed! Mcgrath will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Mcgrath throws a combination that misses and Rodgers counters by moving into the clinch. Rodgers is looking to control Mcgrath's arms but Mcgrath gets an underhook and turns him. Now Rodgers has his back to the cage. Rodgers landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
Mcgrath wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Mcgrath tries to circle away but Rodgers has him pinned against the cage. Mcgrath has Rodgers pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Rodgers manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Rodgers drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Mcgrath is trying to break free. Mcgrath stops a takedown attempt from Rodgers.
Rodgers has had enough of the clinch but Mcgrath keeps him there for the moment. Mcgrath wants to break the clinch but can't.
Rodgers's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Rodgers takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Mcgrath takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket. Mcgrath throws and low kick but Rodgers moves out of range easily. Mcgrath misses with a double jab
and Rodgers counters with a nice body kick. Mcgrath scores with a three punch combo!

Mcgrath looks to land a combination but Rodgers avoids it well. Rodgers misses with a takedown attempt and Mcgrath counters with a two punch combo. Rodgers has closed the distance and engaged Mcgrath in a clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Rodgers decides to pull guard. Rodgers looking for a sweep. Not yet Rodgers, not yet. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Mcgrath's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Rodgers looking to control.

No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Mcgrath wants to stand but Rodgers is controlling his posture from full guard. Rodgers trying to keep a closed guard but Mcgrath is proving a slippery customer.

Dylan Mcgrath dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Rodgers wants to clinch up but Mcgrath keeps it at a distance. Mcgrath throws a leg kick but Rodgers sees it coming and checks it nicely. Mcgrath misses the body punch and Rodgers counters with a lovely straight right hand! Rodgers lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Rodgers moves into range and clinches up with Mcgrath. Mcgrath tries to break the clinch but Rodgers is controlling the position. Rodgers is trying to drag Mcgrath to the mat but Mcgrath just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Rodgers fails to pull guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Rodgers tries to pull guard but Mcgrath won't allow it.

Mcgrath nods at Rodgers to acknowledge the strikes. Rodgers lands with a nice body punch. Mcgrath rushes Rodgers and presses him up against the cage. Rodgers keeps control of Mcgrath as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Rodgers pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Rodgers has Mcgrath up against the cage in a clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Mcgrath has clasped his hands together around Rodgers's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! You can see the frustration on Rodgers's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Mcgrath trying to control the action but Rodgers is working from the bottom. Rodgers struggling a bit here. Mcgrath goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Rodgers has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Mcgrath but great work by Rodgers. Mcgrath wants to get back to his feet. Mcgrath knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Rodgers on the ground.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Rodgers forces Mcgrath back against the cage and clinches. Rodgers tries to score a body lock takedown but Mcgrath shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Rodgers's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not. Rodgers tries to land a knee to the head but misses.

That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Mcgrath breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Mcgrath throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Rodgers was covering up waiting for the punch and Mcgrath finishes the takedown easily into guard. Rodgers wants to stand but Mcgrath is controlling the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Rodgers keeping full guard, as Mcgrath tries to pass. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Mcgrath has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Rodgers is proving hard to escape from. Rodgers working a defensive guard here.
Rodgers wants to sweep here but Mcgrath controlling him for the moment. Mcgrath might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Rodgers keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Mcgrath ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Rodgers moves away. Mcgrath throws a right and a left that both miss. Rodgers lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Mcgrath at a distance.

Mcgrath is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Rodgers is controlling him. Mcgrath wriggles free and stands up. Rodgers leaves Mcgrath with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dylan Mcgrath. That's going to take a lot out of him. Rodgers shoots in but Mcgrath avoids the takedown attempt easily.

And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Dylan Mcgrath. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Mcgrath, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
