PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jeffrey Lui (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pekko Persvako (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Persvako has chosen In Flames - Crawl through knives as his entrance music. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Pekko Persvako was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jeffrey Lui!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Pekko Persvako!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, William Peck and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lui throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Persvako sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Persvako uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Lui.
Lui changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Persvako tries to avoid it but Lui manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Persvako to the ground. Persvako escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Persvako misses with a takedown attempt - Lui sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Persvako fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Lui avoids it really well and circles away.

and Persvako decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Lui's guard.
Persvako seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Lui shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Lui was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Persvako is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Lui tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Persvako was well out of range. Poor timing from Lui.
Jeffrey Lui seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Persvako shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Lui connects with a single shot there.
Lui throws a hook but Persvako blocks it.
Lui lands a jab to the head.

Persvako shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Lui is trying to defend but Persvako finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Persvako connects with a nice short shot to Lui's temple.

Persvako is trying to control. Lui wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Persvako takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Lui creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Persvako sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

What's Persvako going to do here then? He's in a bit of a pickle.
Persvako is breathing heavily.
Persvako is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Persvako tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Lui wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

You can see the frustration on Persvako's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Persvako loads up with a big shot that hurts Lui! He's pulled Persvako in close but Persvako has postured up and lands more strikes. Can Lui survive? More strikes from Persvako and Lui is out! The ref jumps in to save him! Brutal ground and pound!
