The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gentles misses with a hook.

Viera goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Gentles swinging wilding here.
Viera rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Gentles moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

and Gentles counters with a three punch combo that has Viera backing up. Viera nods at Gentles to acknowledge the strikes.
Wilson Viera seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

The crowd cheers as Gentles lands an impressive looking overhand right. Viera doesn't seem phased though.
Viera has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Viera lands a nice hook to Gentles's body. Gentles takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Gentles takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Gentles tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Viera throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Gentles stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Gentles has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Viera finds it's way round the side to connect with Gentles's head.

Horrible takedown by Gentles or perhaps it was just good defense by Viera which made him look bad.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Viera will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Gentles changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Viera tries to avoid it but Gentles manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Viera to the ground. Viera escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Viera looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Gentles with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Viera feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
