PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Shawn Perry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jigoro Puno (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Shawn Perry!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jigoro Puno!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Stewart Dunkirk and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Perry tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Puno breaks the clinch.

Perry bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Perry is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Perry has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Puno keeps Perry at a distance using the push kick.
Perry tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Perry shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Puno's guard.

Perry stands up and waves to Puno to follow him.
Perry throws a head kick that misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Puno ducks under a wild hook from Perry.
Puno wants to clinch up but Perry keeps it at a distance.
Perry finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Puno swats away the attempt to clinch by Perry.
Puno tries for a takedown but Perry circles away easily

and Perry counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Perry seems to be working for a kimura but Puno defends the submission attempt.
Puno trying to hold on to Perry's head to control him but Perry postures up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Perry prevents Puno from improving his position.
Perry works his way into full mount!
Perry putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
Perry dominating with strikes here.


It looks like Jigoro Puno has been cut.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Perry looking to control and managing it successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Puno is bucking up trying to escape but Perry cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Puno really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Perry. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Puno defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Perry.

Perry stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Puno lands a nice looking kick to the body. Perry takes a step back to recover.

Perry shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Perry postures up.

Puno has an active guard here but Perry has managed to pass into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Puno actively working from the bottom here.
Perry scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Perry not doing much here.
Puno has hold of Perry's hands but Perry slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Puno is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Perry scores with a couple of nice shots.
Perry content to control rather than advance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The cut man is working on Jigoro Puno's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Puno circles away from the clinch attempt
and Puno counters with a head kick. That will keep Perry thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Perry throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Perry doesn't manage to clinch there - Puno circles away.

Perry drives through with a takedown into guard.
Puno is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Perry stands up from Puno's guard - Perry perhaps looking for a knockout.
Perry avoids the body shot from Puno.

Perry feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Puno wants to sweep here but Perry controlling him for the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Perry stops Puno from standing up.
Perry passes Puno's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Perry performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Puno is trying to control but can't.
Perry with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Perry's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Perry looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Puno with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Perry in particular looking to stall.
Puno is trying to stand.
Perry is taking a breather. Puno says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Perry is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Perry has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Puno is looking to escape.
Well, if Perry is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Shawn Perry just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Puno blocks a head kick by Perry.

Perry shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Perry was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Perry lands a nice shot to the head.
Puno is looking to get to half guard.
Perry scoring with strikes but Puno is staying in there.
Perry content just to control the position here.
Shawn Perry overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Perry avoids the attempt from Puno to control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!



Excellent takedown into side control there by Perry.
Puno sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Perry is trying to work for a kimura but Puno is defending well.
Puno taking some punishment here, with Perry in his half guard.
Perry content to control rather than advance.
Perry working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Puno wants to get back to full guard.

Puno is trying to control Perry's posture. Perry takes advantage of the lull and advances to side control. He also appears to have an arm triangle here! Uh oh, big trouble for Puno! Perry is rotating here... this could be the end... Puno is out! Perry has ended this one emphatically! Great submission!
