Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
3 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Devin Kane!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Gary Caps!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Caps shoots in but no luck this time.
Caps will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Kane feints and as Caps raises his hands in defense, Kane changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Caps has momentary wrist control but Kane slips an elbow through the middle.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kane wants to control from the top but Caps keeps moving.
Kane knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Caps on the ground.
Caps is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Kane trying to control but Caps is working from the bottom.
Kane is looking to work some ground and pound but Caps has wrist control.
Kane won't allow Caps to sweep him here.
Kane with a flurry of punches that miss.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Caps lands a two punch combo.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Caps tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Kane paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Caps gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Kane makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Kane slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Kane looking to pass the guard.
Kane passes Caps's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Kane throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Kane scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Caps landing rabbit punches to the side of Kane's head. Not doing much damage but still scoring a few points.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kane trying to control the action but Caps is working from the bottom.
Caps wants to get back to his feet.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Kane connects with a nice short shot to Caps's temple.
Kane looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Caps with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Kane winds up and cracks Caps with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Caps looks gassed!
Caps is pressing down on Kane's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Kane wants to control from the top but Caps keeps moving.
Kane seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Kane has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Caps keeping moving, preventing Kane from controlling successfully.
That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kane is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Caps is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Kane throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Caps is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Kane has his hands clasped together but Caps extends an breaks Kane's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Caps.
