The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Madden tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Madden tries to move into range but Penn moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
It looks like Jay Madden has been cut. Madden tries to close the distance and clinch but Penn swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Madden tries to clinch but Penn is having none of it. Madden misses the jab. Madden walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Penn checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side. Penn scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

That's one minute gone in the round. Penn digs a good body shot into Madden's ribs. Madden is breathing heavily. Penn bobbing and weaving well here. And he's unloaded with a massive right hand that drops Madden! He dives into his guard looking to finish!

Jay Madden's cut is getting worse. Penn drops back looking for a leg! Madden is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Madden manages to kick Penn off! Penn jumps back into Madden's guard. Penn is working Madden over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Penn wants to control from the top but Madden keeps moving. Penn postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Penn slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Penn is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Madden looks calm but he's in trouble here. Penn gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Madden is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Penn lets go of the hold and Madden can pop his arm back in it's socket.
