Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kazuushi Sakuraba (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rodrigo Mir (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kazuushi Sakuraba!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Rodrigo Mir!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sakuraba bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mir looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Sakuraba stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Mir doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Sakuraba counters with a shoot takedown. Mir fights it but they end up in guard.
Sakuraba stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mir swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Sakuraba seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Mir should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Sakuraba looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Mir is fending him off so far but Sakuraba persists. Nope, Mir circles away and we're back to standing.

Sakuraba shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Mir manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Sakuraba gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Sakuraba is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Mir is just riding it out for now. Sakuraba eventually gives up the hold.

and Sakuraba counters with a shoot takedown. Mir fights it but they end up in guard.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Mir wants to stand up but Sakuraba is controlling him.
Sakuraba slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Mir is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Sakuraba stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mir swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Mir wants to stand and escape but Sakuraba is having none of it.
Sakuraba is standing up over Mir. Mir looks to escape but Sakuraba dives into side control.
Mir is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Sakuraba asserts his dominance and retains side control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Mir lands with a nice combination. Sakuraba backs away looking to recover.
Sakuraba looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Mir stuffs the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kazuushi Sakuraba. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A combination from Mir does no damage.
Mir dives in and grabs Sakuraba's left leg, looking for a takedown. Sakuraba pushes down on Mir's head and hops out.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

and Sakuraba counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Mir's guard now.
Mir wants to stand and escape but Sakuraba is having none of it.
Sakuraba is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Mir wants to get back to his feet but Sakuraba is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Mir is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee warns Mir that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Sakuraba won't let Mir get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

Sakuraba's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Sakuraba, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
