Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Harry Quan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Guti (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Harry Quan could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Dan Guti's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Harry Quan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dan Guti!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, John Mangel and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice uppercut lands for Quan. That snapped Guti's head back.
Dan Guti seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Quan tries to score a power double leg takedown but Guti sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Quan somewhat.

Guti scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Guti has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Quan working to try and regain half guard.

Guti has hold of Quan's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Quan manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Guti goes for an armbar but Quan turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Quan.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Guti has his foot on Quan's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Quan works his way back into a safe position though.
Quan wants to stand but Guti has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Quan won't allow Guti to sweep him here.

Quan postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Quan knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Guti on the ground.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

and Guti counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Quan's guard now.
Quan wants to sweep but no luck.
Quan pulls Guti in close to his closed guard and prevents Guti from doing any damage or advancing position.

Quan working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Guti doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Guti manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Quan wriggles free and stands up.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Quan drops an elbow to the side of Guti's head.
Quan winds up and cracks Guti with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Quan decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Quan moves into the clinch successfully.
Quan is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Guti pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Quan is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Guti is keeping busy.

Quan pulls guard effortlessly.
Guti stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Quan swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Quan is trying to keep Guti in close.
Quan looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Quan throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Quan decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Quan is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Quan winds up and cracks Guti with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Quan throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Quan wants to pass to mount but Guti is defending the position.

That was a close round but I would say that Harry Quan will probably get the nod.

Guti walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Quan tries to clinch up but Guti circles away and keeps his distance.

Guti feints and as Quan raises his hands in defense, Guti changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Guti won't allow Quan to sweep him here.
Guti passes Quan's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Quan holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.

Guti is working for a submission of some sort.
Quan is looking to improve his position.
Quan is trying to maintain the position but Guti is very close to passing his half guard.
Dan Guti has got the better of the ground game so far.
Guti is breathing heavily.

Guti is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Quan defends it well.

Guti is working for a submission of some sort.
Quan is looking for a sweep. Guti is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Quan is working hard here to advance position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Quan scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.

Quan instigates a clinch.
Quan lands a damaging elbow.
Quan has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Guti avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Quan cracks Guti with a nice body shot.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Guti prevents Quan from breaking the clinch.
Quan tries to break the clinch but Guti is controlling the position.
Guti tries for a takedown. No joy.

Quan pulls guard successfully.
Quan controls Guti momentarily but Guti frees himself.
Guti slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Quan wants to control but Guti postures up.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Quan throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Guti's waist but Guti gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Quan off to one side.

Quan gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Quan is looking to break free of the clinch but Guti has double underhooks.

Quan manages to pull guard.
Quan not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Guti trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Quan thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Quan is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Guti is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Quan's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Quan's back!
Guti gets his hands free as Quan looks to control.

Guti has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Quan has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Guti is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

Quan shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Guti counters with a shoot takedown. Quan fights it but they end up in guard.
Quan looking to hit a scissor sweep but Guti is one step ahead there.

Quan bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
A lull in the action here.
Guti is not content to let Quan control the position.
Guti takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Quan connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Guti some visible discomfort.

Quan has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Quan drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Quan jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Quan stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Guti swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Quan fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Harry Quan showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Quan has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
