PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ricky Riverboat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gregory Montoya (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Riverboat comes to the cage accompanied by Protect Ya neck. Gregory Montoya is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ricky Riverboat!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Gregory Montoya!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Valeri Chadov and Illya Tyunina.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Riverboat is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Montoya throws a body punch but Riverboat moves out of range.
Montoya throws a shot to the body.
Riverboat has a takedown stuffed.
A combination from Riverboat does no damage.
Montoya slaps away a takedown attempt from Riverboat, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Montoya scores a takedown into full mount!
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Riverboat can't escape the position.

Montoya looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

Montoya is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Riverboat can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Riverboat wants to hold on but Montoya pushes him away.

Montoya is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Riverboat to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Riverboat shrugs it off.

Montoya jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Riverboat is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Riverboat and Montoya has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Riverboat is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Montoya wants to pass the guard but Riverboat is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Riverboat scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Montoya manages to mount him!

Montoya is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Riverboat has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Montoya goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Riverboat turns into him and now he's in Montoya's guard.
Riverboat wants to stand but Montoya is controlling his posture from full guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Montoya is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Riverboat is aware though and is defending well.

Riverboat would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Riverboat throws and elbow that misses. Montoya uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Riverboat's guard. Nice move by Montoya!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Riverboat misses with a takedown

so Montoya counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Montoya drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Riverboat dives on top into guard.

Riverboat is stalling here. Montoya is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Riverboat seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Montoya has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Riverboat can't do much from the bottom here.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Riverboat pushes Montoya away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Montoya gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
You can see the frustration on Riverboat's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Montoya swings around for an armbar but Riverboat sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Montoya's guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Riverboat decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Montoya, up you get!

Montoya fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Riverboat manages to avoid it.

Montoya bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Montoya can do anything to dispel that myth.

Gregory Montoya showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Montoya seems to be going for a rear naked choke. He has an arm under Riverboat's chin but Riverboat turns very nicely into Montoya's guard. Good BJJ skills being displayed there by Riverboat.

Riverboat wants to get up but he can't break Montoya's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Riverboat is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Montoya doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Riverboat.

Montoya has his foot on Riverboat's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Riverboat works his way back into a safe position though.

Montoya is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Riverboat is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Montoya wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Riverboat, who protects the arm well.

Well Montoya has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
