PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ro Moran (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Black (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Moran kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Bamboo - Hallelujah. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ro Moran!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jake Black!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Robert Twigg and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Black is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Moran.
Moran shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Black as he avoids it easily.

Moran looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Black!
Black really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Black is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Moran in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Black is squirming around, avoiding Moran's attempts to control the action.
Moran has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Black is trying to stand but he's not in a good position to be doing that! Moran has taken his back!

Black trying to get back to his feet but Moran is in full control for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
A lull in the action here.
A bit of a pause in the action here. Moran controlling the positon.

Black fending off the submission attempt from Moran.
Black trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Moran is punishing Black with strikes - can he finish him?!

Black defending nicely against the rear naked choke attempt.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
Black breaks Moran's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Black trying to control but Moran is working from the bottom.

Moran trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Moran is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Black looking to sit in guard and control but Moran gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Moran is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Moran is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Black is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Black has escaped and now he's on top!
Moran is breathing heavily.
Black tries to free his leg and advance position but Moran is retaining full guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Black loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Black tries to stand but Moran is controlling from the bottom.
Black must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Black postures up in Moran's guard and throws a big left but Moran blocks it.
Black wants to control from the top but Moran keeps moving.
Black showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Black wants to stand but Moran has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
And that�s the end of the round � the fighters go back to their corners.

Ro Moran dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Black doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Moran counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Black's guard now.
Moran with a flurry of punches that miss.
Moran trying to control the position from guard on top but Black is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Black working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Moran doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Moran manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Moran postures up in Black's guard and throws a big left but Black blocks it.

Black looking for subs off his back but Moran has passed one foot through into half guard.

Moran is looking for a kimura but Black is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Moran to get the leverage.
Nice strikes from Moran there.
Black is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Moran missing with the ground and pound from half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Black is refusing to be controlled, as Moran sits in half guard.
Moran takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Moran is looking to take a break and control but Black is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Moran is nestled in close to Black, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Moran not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Moran tries to pass the half guard into mount. Black knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Black tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Moran counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Black's guard now.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Moran wants to control from the top but Black keeps moving.

Black looking for a guillotine here but Moran defends easily.
Moran forces his way into half guard.
Moran not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Moran trying to mount his opponent but Black defends it.
Moran trying to control the pace.
Black is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Moran performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Black wants to get back to full guard.
And that�s the end of the round � the fighters go back to their corners.

Ro Moran dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Moran circles away from the clinch attempt

and Moran counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Moran escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Black with a poor takedown
and Moran counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Black scores with a kick to the midsection.
Black throws a body kick that misses.
Moran shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Black as he jumps to the side.
Moran throws a head kick that misses.
Black throws a head kick but Moran moves out of range.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Horrible takedown by Moran or perhaps it was just good defense by Black which made him look bad.
Moran fails in his attempt to clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Black moves into range and clinches up with Moran.
Moran wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Moran ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Moran no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Black tries to free his leg and advance position but Moran is retaining full guard.

Moran throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Black wants to control from the top but Moran keeps moving.
Ro Moran overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Black stands up from Moran's guard - Black perhaps looking for a knockout.
Black throws a good cross that connects.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Black darts in trying to clinch

and Moran moves into the clinch.

Black jumps guard and drags Moran to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Black looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Black keeping full guard, as Moran tries to pass.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Moran's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Black working a defensive guard here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Moran decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Jake Black seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Black closes the distance but Moran moves to the side

and Moran counters with a takedown into side control.
Jake Black has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Moran lands an elbow.
Black is trying to control Moran's posture but Moran avoids it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Moran trying to control the position but Black is working away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Moran decides to stand up, so the ref orders Black to his feet.
Moran circles away from the clinch attempt

and Moran counters by clinching up.
Moran is leaning against Black and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.
Moran is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ro Moran. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Moran is working for takedown but Black is calmly controlling the position for now.

Black escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Ro Moran is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Black displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.

Moran rushes Black and presses him up against the cage.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Black.
Ro Moran is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Black looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Black digs a right hand underneath Moran's ribcage. Moran let out a lung full of air as it connected.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ro Moran showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Moran, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
