PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ron John (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Adam Palek (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Palek has chosen Notorious B.I.G - Ready to die as his entrance music. The key to victory for Ron John has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ron John!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Adam Palek!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Hugh Johnson and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Palek misses with a takedown attempt - John sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
John fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.


It looks like Adam Palek has been cut.
John moves out of range as Palek throws a body kick.
Palek shoots in but no luck this time.
Palek fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Ron John has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Adam Palek.
Palek gets cracked there but stands up to it.
John tries for a takedown but Palek circles away easily

and Palek counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
John is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

John is looking to stand up but Palek isn't so interested in that idea.

Palek postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
John is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
John bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Palek's guard.

John drops back looking for a leg! Palek is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Palek manages to kick John off! John jumps back into Palek's guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
John is working hard here to advance position.
Palek keeping moving, preventing John from controlling successfully.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Palek can do anything to dispel that myth.
Palek seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Palek uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from John.
John lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

John shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Palek really doesn't want to stay on the ground with John. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

John tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no John has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Palek changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. John looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
John sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Palek thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Palek not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
John works his way to full guard. Good work.
Palek lands a couple of elbows.

John working for a triangle but Palek defends it easily.
John tries to land a sweep but no joy.
John avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Palek keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of John's head.

John is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now John is on top in guard.

Palek has his hands on John's head, controlling the position.

Ron John overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
John is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

John misses with a hook. Palek ducked under it nicely.

Palek gets the takedown into side control.
John tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Palek wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Palek scores with a couple of short elbows.

What's John going to do here then? He's in a bit of a pickle.
John wants to get back to his feet.

John takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
John regains half guard.
John trying to hold on to Palek's head to control him but Palek postures up.
Palek looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks John with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Palek drops an elbow to the side of John's head.

John moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Palek won't allow John to sweep him here.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Palek stands up over John, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Palek has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing John to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Palek is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - John pulls down on the head and he's put Palek to sleep! This one is all over!
