Markus comes to the cage accompanied by Faith No More - Be Aggressive. The crowd seem to be enjoying Cortez's choice of entrance music: About that time. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Joseph Cortez!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, John Mangel and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Markus closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Cortez to the mat! Cortez manages to get full guard.
Markus working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Cortez's head.

Markus drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Markus jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Cortez looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Markus got a little sloppy there for a moment and Cortez has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Markus has managed to get both his arms back between Cortez's legs - danger averted.
Markus has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Cortez can't keep his opponent in guard - Markus advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Markus connects with a nice short shot to Cortez's temple.
Markus slips a nice elbow through Cortez's hands, connecting with Cortez's forehead.
Markus works his way into side control.

Markus is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Cortez has escaped the position, nice work there.

Markus looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Markus looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Cortez with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Markus is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Markus is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Markus slips a nice elbow through Cortez's hands, connecting with Cortez's forehead.

Cortez is looking for a sweep. Markus is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Markus is trying to work for a kimura but Cortez is defending well.
Markus works his foot free and advances to mount.

Markus throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Cortez has his hands clasped together but Markus breaks the hold and Cortez is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Markus!
