PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Ty Curtis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Flying Phoenix (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Curtis comes to the cage accompanied by Gangstas Paradise. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ty Curtis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Flying Phoenix!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Yves DeLean and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Curtis staying out of range there.

Phoenix shoots in and bounces Curtis off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Curtis really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Phoenix pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Curtis is keeping the position for now.
Phoenix is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Curtis knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Phoenix on the ground.
Phoenix passes Curtis's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Phoenix throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

I looks like Phoenix might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Phoenix is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Curtis is just riding it out for now. Phoenix eventually gives up the hold.
Phoenix is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Curtis is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
Curtis keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Phoenix controlling his opponent.
Curtis is looking to improve his position but Phoenix isn't that keen on the idea.

Phoenix trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Phoenix jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Curtis manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Phoenix swats away the attempt to clinch by Curtis.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Phoenix instigates a clinch.
Curtis misses with a hook from the clinch.
Phoenix goes for a takedown in the clinch but Curtis prevents it.
Curtis working some nice short punches in the clinch.
Phoenix is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Curtis is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Curtis seems a little flustered. He's come in with the intention of controlling the clinch but Phoenix is preventing him from doing so, at least for the moment.
Phoenix goes for a takedown in the clinch but Curtis prevents it.
Ty Curtis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Flying Phoenix.
Curtis is pressed up against the cage. Phoenix has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Curtis down to the mat. Curtis avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Phoenix tries to score a power double leg takedown but Curtis sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Phoenix somewhat.
Phoenix avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Flying Phoenix dominated that round.
That's time! Curtis's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Phoenix misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Curtis keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

and Phoenix counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Curtis is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Phoenix is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Let's hope that Phoenix has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Phoenix advances to half guard.
Phoenix content to control rather than advance.
Curtis is not content to let Phoenix control the position.
Still in half guard, Phoenix seems content to control.
Phoenix tries to pass the half guard into mount. Curtis knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Phoenix might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Curtis kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Despite being in the dominant position, Flying Phoenix just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Curtis looks to clinch

and Phoenix counters with a single leg into guard. Curtis didn't expect that.
Phoenix wants to control from the top but Curtis keeps moving.

Phoenix sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Curtis's guard.

Phoenix wants to work for an arm triangle but Curtis is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Phoenix is controlling the pace.
Phoenix is breathing heavily.
Curtis tries to get to full guard but Phoenix has control of the leg.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Flying Phoenix showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Curtis throws a series of strikes that have Phoenix backpedaling.
Curtis is looking to clinch but Phoenix is avoiding it.
Phoenix shoots in but no luck this time.
Curtis tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Phoenix counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Phoenix.
Curtis effectively controlling the action here.

Phoenix blocks a body shot from Curtis.

Curtis lands with a left to the head.
Curtis misses with a short punch on the inside.
Curtis tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

A frustrated look appears on Phoenix's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Curtis misses with a short punch on the inside.
Curtis misses with the head strike.
Curtis fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Phoenix is working for takedown but Curtis is calmly controlling the position for now.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Curtis prevents the takedown attempt.
Ty Curtis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Flying Phoenix.

Phoenix drops down looking for an ankle pick but Curtis pulls his leg out and moves away.
Phoenix takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Curtis tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Phoenix paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Curtis displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Phoenix.

Flying Phoenix seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Phoenix counters with a nice double leg into side control. Curtis won't be happy with that.

Curtis is trying to control Phoenix's posture but Phoenix avoids it.
Curtis tries to buck Phoenix off but Phoenix is having none of it.
Ty Curtis has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Phoenix advances nicely into full mount.

Phoenix working for a submission but Curtis is keeping him at bay.

Phoenix seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Curtis trying to control but Phoenix postures up.
Phoenix thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Curtis on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Curtis tries to get out of the position.

Phoenix is keen to just control but Curtis is a slippery customer.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Phoenix looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Phoenix is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Curtis doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Phoenix.

I would just about give that final round to Flying Phoenix.
I've got Phoenix winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
