PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bubba Cooper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and King Kong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cooper comes to the cage accompanied by momma said knock you out. Kong is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Faint. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bubba Cooper!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, King Kong!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Gwen Towbar and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cooper shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Kong defends it nicely.
No joy there for Cooper, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Kong closes the distance and pushes Cooper back into the cage.
Kong landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.

It looks like Bubba Cooper has been cut.
Kong is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.
Cooper is breathing heavily.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Kong throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
Cooper could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Cooper takes an elbow to the temple.
Kong lands a knee to the body.
Kong tries to land knees in the clinch but Cooper avoids the damage to the body.
Kong is pushing Cooper up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Knees to the body from Kong.
Kong lands a good knee to the midsection. Cooper won't want to take too many of those.
Cooper jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Kong walks away with a smile on his face. Cooper gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bubba Cooper. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Cooper throws a sloppy head kick and Kong moves out of range easily.

Kong fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Cooper sprawls well initially but Kong persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Kong seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Cooper trying to control but Kong postures up.
Kong wants to pass the guard but Cooper is defending well.
Cooper is trying to stand.

Kong is controlling the pace.
Kong prevents Cooper from improving his position.
Cooper looks like he's trying to stand up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Let's hope that Kong has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Kong is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Cooper has managed to free his arm - good work.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Cooper is trying to stand up here but Kong is controlling him well.

Bubba Cooper's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kong is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Cooper has managed to free his arm - good work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

King Kong dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Bubba Cooper's cut.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Cooper tries to clinch but Kong moves away

and Kong holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Kong tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Cooper avoids it.
Kong using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Cooper has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Cooper tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Cooper blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Cooper tries to pull guard but Kong won't allow it.
Kong lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!
Kong tries a knee to the head but Cooper blocks it.
Kong has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Kong keeps control of Cooper as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Kong landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
Kong lands an elbow just above Cooper 's eye.
Cooper drops down looking for an ankle pick but Kong pulls his leg out and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bubba Cooper. That's going to take a lot out of him.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Kong connects with a knee to the head.


Jeez, Bubba Cooper's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.
