Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Marco Banfo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Archie James!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Kenichi Hosakawa and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Banfo will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

James drives through with a takedown into guard.
James wants to pass the guard but Banfo is keeping the position.
Banfo looking for a sweep. Not yet Banfo, not yet.
James slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Banfo manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. James manages to get himself to full guard.

James is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

James is looking for a triangle but Banfo pushes his legs off easily.
James has his hands on Banfo's head, controlling the position.
James wants to stand up but Banfo is controlling him.
Banfo content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Banfo thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
James wants to get back to his feet but Banfo is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

James bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Banfo's guard.

Let's hope that James has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


James throws a half hearted mid kick.
Banfo lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but James circles away quickly and effectively.
A right-left combo lands from Banfo.


It looks like Archie James has been cut.

and James counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by James.

Banfo is looking for a triangle but James pushes his legs off easily.

Banfo is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
James is breathing heavily.

James is looking for a sweep. Banfo is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Banfo is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and James defends it well.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Banfo is looking to stand up but James isn't so interested in that idea.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Banfo throws a right hand that James ducks under and follows up with a left that James also avoids with ease.
Banfo throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
James misses with a takedown attempt - Banfo sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Marco Banfo will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Archie James's cut.
That's time! Banfo's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


James tries to clinch but Banfo is having none of it.

James decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Banfo is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but James pulls his head out easily.
James takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
James is trying to control. Banfo wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Banfo changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. James looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Banfo scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at James to see if he's OK.
Banfo misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
James is working to avoid the ground and pound but Banfo connects with a decent elbow.

Banfo tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Banfo has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

James takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Banfo misses with the ground and pound.
Banfo wants to control but James is keeping him busy.
You can see the frustration on James's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Banfo lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
James is pushing Banfo's head away, looking to escape. Banfo manages to hold on to the position though.
Banfo working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.

Banfo works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

And that's the end of the fight!
Marco Banfo showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Banfo has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
