Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jack OConnor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Terry Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jack OConnor!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Terry Jones!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Hugh Johnson and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
OConnor tries to clinch but Jones is having none of it.
OConnor is looking to land body kicks.
OConnor slaps away a takedown attempt from Jones, before circling back to the center of the mat.
OConnor takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Jones looks to land a combination. OConnor sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
OConnor throws a head kick but Jones moves out of range.
OConnor misses with a takedown attempt

and Jones counters by moving into the clinch.
OConnor prevents the takedown attempt.
Jones keeps the fight in the clinch, despite OConnor's efforts to push away.

OConnor escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Jones moves out of range of the body kick.
Jones pulls out of a head kick attempt.
OConnor misses with a shot to the body

so Jones counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Jones postures up in OConnor's guard and throws a big left but OConnor blocks it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

OConnor keeping moving, preventing Jones from controlling successfully.
Jones throws a big right hand that misses.
OConnor manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Jones manages to get himself to full guard.
Jones has OConnor pulled in close to control his posture.
Jones is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
OConnor wanted to stand there but Jones had control of the position.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

OConnor stands and throws Jones's legs to the side, diving into side control.
You can see the frustration on Jones's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Jones pushes OConnor away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, OConnor gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
A slapping body kick lands there for OConnor.
Jones throws a quick head kick that skims the top of OConnor's head.
OConnor clinches but Jones breaks the clinch

and Jones counters with a single leg into guard. OConnor didn't expect that.
Jones is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Jones looks gassed!
Jones throws a big right hand that misses.

Jones really doesn't want to stay on the ground with OConnor. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
OConnor pushes Jones off looking to stand but Jones dives back in and keeps control.

Jones decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
OConnor throws a big shot that misses.

Jones darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
OConnor is staying active underneath Jones, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

OConnor got a little sloppy there for a moment and Jones has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, OConnor has managed to get both his arms back between Jones's legs - danger averted.

Terry Jones has got the better of the ground game so far.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Jones bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Jones looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
OConnor tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Jones paws at him with a jab and circles away.

OConnor drives through and clinches with Jones against the cage.
A right handed body shot lands from Jones.
OConnor is trying to break free.

OConnor escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
OConnor misses with a body kick.
OConnor looks to land a combination but Jones avoids it well.

Jones scores a takedown into full mount!

OConnor is desperately trying to improve his position but Jones has a good base and remains in mount.

Jones jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but OConnor manages to avoid the submission attempt.
OConnor is looking to reverse the position.

Jones stands up and beckons OConnor to his feet.

Jones moves into range and clinches up with OConnor.
OConnor tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Jones smiles and moves away.

Jones closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming OConnor to the mat! OConnor manages to get full guard.

Jones slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Jones trying to control but OConnor is working from the bottom.
Jones must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

OConnor working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jones doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Jones manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Terry Jones showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

OConnor wants to hit a switch here but Jones passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for OConnor there!

Jones lands a heavy elbow.
Jones looking to control but OConnor is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Jones takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
OConnor is in all sorts of trouble here.
Jones has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of OConnor's face.

Jones tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Jones is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. OConnor can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Jones lands a big shot there that rocks OConnor but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

OConnor wants to control but Jones is having none of it.

Terry Jones comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Jones has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
