PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Manunu Igi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Billy Do (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Manunu Igi has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Manunu Igi seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Manunu Igi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Billy Do!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Taro Takaoka and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Do is defended easily by Igi.
Do tries to clinch but Igi moves out of range.
Billy Do seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Do shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Igi sprawls well. Igi wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Do gets slowly back to his feet.
Igi swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Do changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Igi tries to avoid it but Do manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Igi to the ground. Igi escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Manunu Igi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Billy Do.

Do darts in and clinches Igi up against the cage.
Igi is pressed up against the cage. Do has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Igi down to the mat. Igi avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Do misses with a double jab
and Igi counters with a right hand to the body.
Do looks to clinch
and Igi counters with a three punch combo that has Do backing up. Do nods at Igi to acknowledge the strikes.

Igi shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Do napping and manages to drive through into side control!
A lull in the action here as Igi stalls from top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Do looks gassed!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Do tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Do is not content to let Igi control the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Igi wants to stand but Do has his arm trapped.
Igi throws a strike aimed at the side of Do's head but Do avoids it well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Do is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Do is looking to control Igi's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Do avoid being mounted?
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Igi throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Manunu Igi dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Do has his takedown stuffed

and Igi counters with a takedown into side control.
Igi postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Igi tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Igi trying to control the action but Do is working from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Igi tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Do managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Igi.
Do is pushing Igi's head away, looking to escape. Igi manages to hold on to the position though.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Igi trying to control the action but Do is working from the bottom.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Do sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Igi stalling away here and it's allowed Do to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Igi gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Igi shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Do manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Manunu Igi dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Igi slaps away a takedown attempt from Do, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Igi scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Do pushes Igi off looking to stand but Igi dives back in and keeps control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Do is trying to maintain the position but Igi is very close to passing his half guard.
Igi thows a huge punch but Do dodges it nicely.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Do keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Igi throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Igi trying to pass the guard but Do defending well.

Do kicks off Igi and gets to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Igi will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Igi lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Do circles away quickly and effectively.

Igi clinches.
Igi wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Do has him pressed against the cage.
Do has Igi pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Igi manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Do misses with a punch to the body.

Igi jumps into guard, dragging Do to the mat.
Do won't allow Igi to get back to his feet.
Do throwing strikes from guard but Igi blocks nicely.

Do thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Do takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Igi is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Do is looking to work some ground and pound but Igi has wrist control.
Igi working a defensive guard here.
Igi is really struggling to control Do but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Igi moves into the clinch.
Igi fails to pull guard.
Igi is trying to break free.
Igi prevents the takedown attempt.
Manunu Igi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Billy Do.
Do misses with a body punch.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Do tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Do trying to control the position but instead, Igi has worked for underhooks and has pushed Do into the cage.
Do jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Igi walks away with a smile on his face. Do gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

And that's the end of the fight!
Manunu Igi showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Igi has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
