Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Mikhail Ligachev! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Park Sun Gogoplata! The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Paul Tew and James Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gogoplata looks to throw the jab but Ligachev is out of range. Ligachev tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Gogoplata was well out of range. Poor timing from Ligachev. Ligachev takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him. Ligachev takes one to the side of the head.
Ligachev connects with a nice looking jab.
Park Sun Gogoplata seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Gogoplata throws a right and a left that both miss. Ligachev avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Ligachev moves out of range of the strikes. Gogoplata with a nice cross. Gogoplata closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Ligachev did well to prevent Gogoplata getting side control. Gogoplata not landing any meaningful shots this time. Gogoplata throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Gogoplata has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Gogoplata missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Gogoplata looks to land a strike but Ligachev avoids it nicely and regains full guard. Ligachev knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Gogoplata on the ground. Ligachev scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Gogoplata ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gogoplata misses with a body punch
and Ligachev counters with a good low kick that Gogoplata was not able to check. Gogoplata misses with a wild combination.
Gogoplata chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Ligachev can pounce on him.
Gogoplata looks gassed! Gogoplata looks to throw the jab but Ligachev is out of range. Gogoplata throws an overhand right that lands on Ligachev's shoulder, as Ligachev tries to avoid the shot. Ligachev walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. Ligachev closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Ligachev wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Gogoplata has him pressed against the cage. Ligachev breaks from the clinch.
Gogoplata takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Ligachev throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Gogoplata. Mikhail Ligachev is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Gogoplata throws a jab when Ligachev was well out of range. Ligachev lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Ligachev gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Gogoplata will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Gogoplata is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Ligachev.
Gogoplata is rocked! Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Gogoplata with a lazy takedown attempt and Ligachev counters by clinching up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ligachev escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Ligachev ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. Ligachev lands a brutal head kick. Gogoplata looks out on his feet and Ligachev throws more strikes until the ref is forced to stop the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:13 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Kick and Punches). Mikhail Ligachev! Mikhail Ligachev retains his featherweight title!
