Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ralph Pootawn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lewis Wood (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ralph Pootawn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Lewis Wood!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Chad Campbell and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pootawn misses with a wild body shot.
Pootawn checks a leg kick.
Pootawn wants to clinch up but Wood keeps it at a distance.

Wood uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Pootawn.
Wood shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Pootawn but Pootawn pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Pootawn connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wood lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Pootawn circles away quickly and effectively.
Pootawn throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Wood stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Pootawn fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Wood manages to avoid it.
Wood shoots in for a takedown but Pootawn shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Wood misses with a takedown attempt - Pootawn sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Ralph Pootawn has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lewis Wood.

Pootawn scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Wood shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Pootawn as he jumps to the side.
Pootawn scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Wood changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Pootawn tries to avoid it but Wood manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Pootawn to the ground. Pootawn escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Pootawn defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Wood.
Wood takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Lewis Wood seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Pootawn connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.

Wood wants to pass the guard but Pootawn is keeping the position.
Wood trying to stand up but can't free himself from Pootawn's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wood postures up.
Pootawn is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Wood is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Wood is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Pootawn has a closed guard, preventing Wood from standing up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Wood tries to score a power double leg takedown but Pootawn sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Wood somewhat.
Wood takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Pootawn wants to clinch up but Wood keeps it at a distance.
A lazy left from Pootawn finds it's target.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Wood fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Wood shoots in but no luck this time.
Wood tries to score a power double leg takedown but Pootawn sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Wood somewhat.
Pootawn lands an overhand right.
Pootawn scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Wood doesn't seem bothered though.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Pootawn ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Pootawn lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Pootawn throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Wood on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Wood shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Pootawn as he avoids it easily.
Pootawn uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Wood.
Pootawn's corner calls for a 1-2. Pootawn obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

Lewis Wood is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Wood is breathing heavily.
Wood walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

Ralph Pootawn has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lewis Wood.

Horrible takedown by Wood or perhaps it was just good defense by Pootawn which made him look bad.

Wood has a pretty nasty looking mouse under his right eye.
Pootawn comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Wood shoots in for a takedown but Pootawn shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Wood darts in trying to clinch
and Pootawn counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Pootawn thuds his right hand into Wood's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Wood closes the distance but Pootawn moves to the side
and Pootawn counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Wood thinking.

A frustrated look appears on Pootawn's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Wood is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Pootawn pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Wood tries to pull guard but Pootawn won't allow it.
Pootawn throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.

Pootawn tries to break the clinch but Wood is controlling the position.
Pootawn digs a right hand underneath Wood's ribcage. Wood let out a lung full of air as it connected.

Wood has Pootawn pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Pootawn manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Wood takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Wood keeps control of Pootawn as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Ralph Pootawn is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Pootawn forces Wood back against the cage and clinches.
Wood jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Pootawn walks away with a smile on his face. Wood gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Pootawn tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Pootawn cracks a nice hook into Wood's ribs.

Pootawn scores with a jab. Wood acknowledges it with a nod of the head.

Wood tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Pootawn smiles and moves away.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Pootawn, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
