Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Nasir Jones! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Stan Presley! The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jones throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Presley sees it coming and avoids it easily. Presley throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Presley misses the shot to the body. Presley lands with a shot to the body. Jones showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Presley.
Jones takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt. Presley cracks Jones with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. Presley tries to clinch there but Jones circles away.
Presley tries to move into range but Jones moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand. Presley thuds a left hand into Jones's body. Jones swings and misses with a shot to the body and Presley counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Jones jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Nice defenses there by Jones.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jones has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Jones there as he acknowledges the shot. Stan Presley is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Presley throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Presley will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Jones doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. Jones wants to land a leg kick but Presley is out of range. Presley cracks a nice hook into Jones's ribs. Presley tries to clinch up. Jones tries to score with a low kick but Presley moves his leg out of the way. Jones drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Presley keeping moving, preventing Jones from controlling successfully. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Presley can do anything to dispel that myth. Jones prevents Presley from getting back to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Presley will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Presley wants to sweep here but Jones controlling him for the moment. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Jones accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Presley wants to stand up but Jones is controlling him. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. A looping hook to the body misses from Presley. Jones does a little dance to reset his feet. Presley swings and misses with a shot to the body and Jones counters with a three punch combo that has Presley backing up. Presley nods at Jones to acknowledge the strikes. Jones throws out a loose jab but Presley uses good head movement to avoid it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jones has a takedown stuffed. Jones misses with a straight right. Jones throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Presley fails with an attempt to clinch.
Presley is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Jones. Jones misses with a low kick as Presley jumps back. A telegraphed right hand from Jones misses the target. Presley stuns Jones with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. Presley is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Jones rather than just go for the knockout. Jones swats away the attempt to clinch by Presley. Presley lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Jones at a distance.
Jones is breathing heavily.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Presley swings away with a body shot that misses
and Jones counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Presley scores with a hook to the body. Jones takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Jones will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
A nice combination there by Presley.
It looks like Nasir Jones has been cut. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Presley tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Jones paws at him with a jab and circles away. Jones swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Presley counters with a left right combination that sends Jones crashing to the mat - Presley wastes no time in diving on top of him and pounding Jones out for a TKO! Devastating finish!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:43 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Stan Presley! Stan Presley is the new welterweight champion!
