Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ikoa Oyama! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jacob Hinkel! The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Kenichi Hosakawa and Hirohito Nitta.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A telegraphed takedown attempt from Hinkel is defended easily by Oyama. Hinkel looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Oyama darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Oyama working Hinkel over with strikes. Hinkel won't allow Oyama to pass to mount. Oyama has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Oyama keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Oyama moves nicely into side control. Oyama trying to control the action but Hinkel is working from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Oyama scores with a couple of short elbows. Oyama lands some shots froms side control. Oyama thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Oyama in side control, just content to control the action for now. Oyama tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Oyama has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Oyama cracks Hinkel with an elbow. That is naaassty.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Oyama wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Hinkel, who protects the arm well. The referee tells the fighters to keep busy. Hinkel is not content to let Oyama control the position. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Hinkel is trying to escape the position but Oyama is controlling the position. Hinkel taking a bit of punishment here - Oyama scoring with strikes.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Oyama in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Hinkel is tapping! That's the end of the fight!
