PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mat Matmat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Christian Slaughter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Matmat comes to the cage accompanied by pass tha axe. Slaughter is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by The Crown - World Below. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mat Matmat!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Christian Slaughter!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Columbo Gatti and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Matmat.
Matmat fails to land the takedown.
Matmat throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Slaughter sees it coming and avoids it easily.
A looping hook to the body misses from Matmat. Slaughter does a little dance to reset his feet.
Slaughter fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Slaughter with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Slaughter swings for the body but Matmat moves out of range.
Slaughter is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Matmat.

Matmat closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Slaughter did well to prevent Matmat getting side control.
Slaughter wants to get back to full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Slaughter is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Slaughter slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Slaughter managing to control the position.
Slaughter has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Matmat has passed into side control.
Slaughter wants to control but Matmat postures up.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Slaughter tries to bench press Matmat off him but Matmat keeps the position.
Slaughter gets back to half guard.
Matmat looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Slaughter tries to roll over but Matmat keeps him under control.
Matmat drops an elbow to the side of Slaughter's head.

Matmat looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Slaughter is looking for a sweep. Matmat is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Slaughter trying to control here.
Matmat tries to pass to full mount but Slaughter defends it.
Matmat looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Slaughter wants to improve his position but Matmat is controlling well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Slaughter avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Matmat.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Slaughter is staying active underneath Matmat, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Matmat misses with a hook. Slaughter ducked under it nicely.
Slaughter stuffs the takedown attempt from Matmat. Matmat gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mat Matmat. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Slaughter is looking to clinch.
Slaughter throws a hook but Matmat avoids it easily.
Matmat dips to his left and cracks Slaughter with an uppercut!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Slaughter tries to clinch there but Matmat circles away.
Matmat wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Slaughter swings for the body but Matmat moves out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Mat Matmat will probably get the nod.

Slaughter tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Matmat ducks under a wild hook from Slaughter.
Matmat dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Matmat drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Slaughter dives on top into guard.

Slaughter got a little sloppy there for a moment and Matmat has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Slaughter has managed to get both his arms back between Matmat's legs - danger averted.

Slaughter would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Slaughter scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Slaughter swings for the body but Matmat moves out of range.
Slaughter lands with a shot to the body.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Slaughter throws a jab when Matmat was well out of range.

and Matmat counters with a nice double leg into side control. Slaughter won't be happy with that.
Slaughter is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Slaughter is not content to let Matmat control the position.
Slaughter defending against the ground and pound.
Slaughter manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

A close second round but Christian Slaughter will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's time! Matmat's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Slaughter lands a nice hook to Matmat's body. Matmat takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Slaughter tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Slaughter lands with a hook. Matmat tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Matmat fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Slaughter manages to avoid it.
Slaughter misses with a two punch combination.
Slaughter tries to clinch but Matmat moves out of range.
Christian Slaughter seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Slaughter is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Matmat uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Slaughter.

and Matmat counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Slaughter wants to control but Matmat is keeping busy.
Slaughter is looking to improve his position.
Slaughter is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Matmat's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Matmat's back!

Slaughter is trying to stick to Matmat's back but Matmat is turning into Slaughter. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Slaughter's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Matmat.

Slaughter throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Matmat escapes and throws Slaughter's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Matmat trying to control the action but Slaughter is working from the bottom.
Matmat laying and praying for a moment but Slaughter takes advantage and regains half guard.
Slaughter is trying to get back to full guard.
Matmat wants to take a breather but Slaughter is having none of it.

And that's the end of the fight!
Christian Slaughter comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Slaughter has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
