Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Ali Wantishurt! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Bob Knoxx! The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Andrew Berry and Steven Brown.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Wantishurt tries to clinch there but Knoxx circles away.
Wantishurt tries to clinch but Knoxx is having none of it. Wantishurt works Knoxx's body with a nice hook. Wantishurt moves in looking to clinch but Knoxx pushes him off. Wantishurt thows a body shot but no joy. Wantishurt fails to land with a series of punches.
Knoxx tries to clinch and Wantishurt counters with a left and a right that stings Knoxx. Knoxx ducks under a wild hook from Wantishurt. Knoxx tries for a takedown but Wantishurt sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Wantishurt will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Knoxx shoots in but no luck this time. Ali Wantishurt seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
That's one minute gone in the round. Knoxx shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Wantishurt but Wantishurt pushes him off and we're back to square one. Ali Wantishurt has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bob Knoxx. A combination from Wantishurt does no damage. Wantishurt has closed the distance and engaged Knoxx in a clinch.
Wantishurt wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Knoxx has him pressed against the cage. Wantishurt is breathing heavily. Knoxx pulls guard successfully.
Knoxx is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Wantishurt knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Knoxx on the ground. Knoxx wants to pass the guard but Wantishurt is defending well. Knoxx is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Knoxx takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Wantishurt is looking to improve his position but Knoxx isn't that keen on the idea. Knoxx tries to control but Wantishurt wriggling away. Knoxx wants to stand but Knoxx is holding on to him, trying to stop him posturing up.
Wantishurt has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.
Knoxx struggling to keep hold of the position.
Wantishurt really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Wantishurt has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke. Knoxx is looking to control Wantishurt but Wantishurt is wriggling around and keeping busy. Wantishurt trying to survive by controlling the hands. Knoxx is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Wantishurt has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here. Knoxx has the hooks in. Wantishurt is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Knoxx is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Wantishurt prevents Knoxx from getting a body triangle. Wantishurt trying to get back to his feet but Knoxx is in full control for now. Wantishurt staying busy and making it hard for Knoxx to control. Knoxx might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Wantishurt kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Bob Knoxx will probably get the nod. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Knoxx clinches. Wantishurt is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Knoxx looking to stall.
Knoxx pulls guard effortlessly. Knoxx looking to control.
Despite being in the dominant position, Bob Knoxx just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Knoxx keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Knoxx tries to clinch and Wantishurt counters with a three punch combo that has Knoxx backing up. Knoxx nods at Wantishurt to acknowledge the strikes. Wantishurt keeps the fight on the outside. Knoxx closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Knoxx advances to mount.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wantishurt tries to reverse the position but Knoxx maintains control. Knoxx with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Knoxx trying to control but Wantishurt is having none of it. Wantishurt is desperately trying to improve his position but Knoxx has a good base and remains in mount. Knoxx is trying to take his opponent's back.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Wantishurt tries to hold on but Knoxx pushes him away. Knoxx looking for a guillotine from mount but Wantishurt is having none of it. Knoxx moves to take his opponent's back. Knoxx is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Wantishurt defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined. Knoxx tightening his grip on Wantishurt, looking for the choke. Knoxx has his arm under Wantishurt's chin here. Game over son! Knoxx squeezes tightly and Wantishurt is forced to tap out!
