PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Varun Kumar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Danny Boy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Varun Kumar has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Varun Kumar seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Varun Kumar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Danny Boy!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kumar is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Boy closes this distance looking for a takedown but Kumar circles away.

Kumar clinches with his opponent.
Boy blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Kumar blocks an uppercut.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Kumar is trying to break free.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kumar lands a hook to the side of the head.

Boy manages to break the clinch.
Boy scores with a push kick.
Kumar uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Boy.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kumar tries to close the distance and clinch up but Boy swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Boy shoots for a double leg takedown but Kumar sprawls well. He's pushed Boy's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Kumar tests Boy's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Some bone on bone action there as Boy checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Boy swats away the attempt to clinch by Kumar.
Kumar takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Boy throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Kumar scores with a takedown into Boy's guard.
Kumar prevents Boy from getting back to his feet.
Kumar scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kumar postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Kumar stops Boy from standing up.
Kumar will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Boy looks gassed!
Kumar tries to free his leg and advance position but Boy is retaining full guard.
Kumar keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Boy's head.
Boy can't keep his opponent in guard - Kumar advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kumar seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Boy does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Kumar wants to pass to mount but Boy is defending the position.

Kumar is working for a submission of some sort.
Boy really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kumar. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Kumar not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Kumar passes the guard and advances to mount!
Kumar pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Boy is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Kumar landing strikes from the mount and Boy is in trouble!
Kumar lands a nice shot to the head.
Kumar connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Kumar cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Kumar has hold of Boy's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Boy manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Kumar in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Kumar lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Varun Kumar dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Kumar doesn't manage to clinch there - Boy circles away.
Boy swats away the attempt to clinch by Kumar.
Kumar tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Boy pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Boy is looking to clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nice sprawl there from Boy as Kumar shoots in.

Kumar dodges the punch combination from Boy.

Boy throws a hook but Kumar avoids it easily.
Boy avoids the head kick by Kumar.
Kumar slips a straight right by Boy.
Boy avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Kumar is looking to clinch.
Kumar tries to clinch up
letting Boy counter with a right hand.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Kumar tries to clinch up

and Boy counters with a nice double leg into side control. Kumar won't be happy with that.
Kumar stuck in half guard on the bottom here.
Kumar manages to get back to half guard.
Kumar regains full guard. Nicely done.

Kumar is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Boy is aware though and is defending well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kumar lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Boy!
Boy is breathing heavily.
The referee warns Boy that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Kumar is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Boy can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Kumar is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Boy is forced to tap! Great finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:48 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Varun Kumar!
