PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dave The Arc (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Grant Mitchell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Dave The Arc!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Grant Mitchell!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Paul Tew and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The Arc swats away the attempt to clinch by Mitchell.
Mitchell doesn't manage to clinch there - The Arc circles away.

The Arc feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The Arc won't allow Mitchell to sweep him here.
The Arc has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Mitchell has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but The Arc has passed into side control.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Dave The Arc just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Mitchell tries to close the distance and clinch up but The Arc swats him away and circles back towards the center.

and The Arc counters with a nice double leg into guard.
The Arc seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Mitchell is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Mitchell can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as The Arc controls the pace.

Mitchell throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! The Arc escapes and throws Mitchell's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Mitchell seems a little lost for a moment, as The Arc dominates the positioning.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Mitchell wants to control but The Arc postures up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The Arc seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Mitchell for as long as he can get away with.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Mitchell closes the distance looking to clinch

and The Arc counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Mitchell is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The Arc passes to full mount!

The Arc gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

Mitchell is breathing heavily.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
The Arc remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Mitchell wants to control but The Arc postures up.
Dave The Arc overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The Arc decides to stand back up.

The Arc closes the distance and pushes Mitchell back into the cage.
The Arc tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Mitchell smiles and moves away.

and The Arc counters with a shoot takedown. Mitchell fights it but they end up in guard.

Mitchell is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. The Arc is aware though and is defending well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The Arc seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The Arc's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Mitchell wants to control the position but The Arc says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
The Arc works his way into full mount!
Mitchell has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Mitchell rolls, trying to escape but The Arc keeps control of the position.
The Arc is riding his opponent, not letting Mitchell buck him off.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Dave The Arc just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

The Arc throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Mitchell was covering up waiting for the punch and The Arc finishes the takedown easily into guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Mitchell looking for subs off his back but The Arc has passed one foot through into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!



The Arc shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Mitchell napping and manages to drive through into side control!
The Arc is looking to take a break and control but Mitchell is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Mitchell is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
The Arc knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mitchell on the ground.

Grant Mitchell has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Dave The Arc just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

The Arc darts in and clinches Mitchell up against the cage.

The Arc jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Mitchell walks away with a smile on his face. The Arc gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Mitchell gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows The Arc to score an easy takedown into full guard.
The Arc is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

And that's the end of the fight!
Dave The Arc showed his dominance in that final round.
Well The Arc has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
