PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Chris McClanahan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kevin koch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chris McClanahan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kevin koch!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Alan Glass and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McClanahan takes the fight into the clinch.
McClanahan stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
koch tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. McClanahan just stands there and leans against the cage.
koch keeps the fight in the clinch, despite McClanahan's efforts to push away.
koch wants to break the clinch but can't.
McClanahan tries to stall but koch uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
koch blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
McClanahan stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
McClanahan is trying to maintain a safe position but koch gets an underhook and turns McClanahan into the cage.
koch has McClanahan pushed against the cage.

koch jumps into guard, dragging McClanahan to the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

McClanahan in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

McClanahan wants to pass the guard but koch is keeping the position.
koch looking to hit a scissor sweep but McClanahan is one step ahead there.
koch is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
koch passes into side control, despite McClanahan's attempt to control the position.

koch tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
McClanahan is looking for a sweep.
McClanahan manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
McClanahan has decided to stand back up but his arm is trapped. Whilst he's worrying about his arm, koch works to full guard.
koch trying to keep a closed guard but McClanahan is proving a slippery customer.
McClanahan has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

koch tries to land a sweep but no joy.
McClanahan is looking to work some ground and pound but koch has wrist control.

McClanahan is breathing heavily.
koch is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
McClanahan has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. koch is working away from the top position though.

koch postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for McClanahan to stand up.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

McClanahan feints and as koch raises his hands in defense, McClanahan changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

McClanahan trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
koch throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
McClanahan pushes down on koch's leg and manages to get into half guard.

McClanahan wants to work for an arm triangle but koch is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Kevin koch will probably get the nod.
That's time! McClanahan's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


koch shoots in but McClanahan avoids the takedown attempt easily.

koch shoots for a takedown but McClanahan saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

koch bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
McClanahan is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
McClanahan wants to control but koch postures up.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

koch controls the position.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
koch keeps control of the position for the meantime.
McClanahan frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
koch tries to hold on but McClanahan pushes him away.

koch tries to lock up and control but McClanahan gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
McClanahan blocks koch's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
McClanahan lands a nice shot to the head.
McClanahan punching from mount but koch doing a good job of avoiding damage.

koch is trying to escape the mount.
McClanahan scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish koch?
McClanahan thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
McClanahan misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
koch is trying to stand.
McClanahan throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
McClanahan scoring with strikes but koch is staying in there.
koch sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
McClanahan seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but koch does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
koch works his way to full guard. Good work.

McClanahan decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
koch closes this distance looking for a takedown but McClanahan circles away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Chris McClanahan will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


McClanahan throws a sloppy head kick and koch moves out of range easily.
koch keeps the fight on the outside.
Chris McClanahan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
No luck for koch with that takedown attempt.
koch shoots in looking for a takedown. McClanahan tries to sprawl out of it but koch keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. McClanahan manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
McClanahan wants to pass the guard but koch is defending well.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
koch slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

McClanahan changes levels and goes for a takedown here. koch fights it off and pushes away nicely.
McClanahan throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
koch will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

koch is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

McClanahan is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
koch stays in close to McClanahan's body and controls the position.

I would just about give that final round to Kevin koch.
I think koch has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
