Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Stewie Griffin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Bruno Maia!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Felipe Paraventi and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Griffin gets caught flat footed, as Maia shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Griffin is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Maia stays in close to Griffin's body and controls the position.

Maia is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Griffin looking for a sweep. Not yet Griffin, not yet.
Maia trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Griffin tries to strike from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Griffin misses with a takedown attempt

so Maia counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Maia postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Griffin is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Maia, into his guard.
Maia not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Maia wants to sweep but no luck.
Griffin with a flurry of punches that miss.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Griffin thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Maia looking to control.
Griffin lands a couple of digs.
Maia is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Griffin gets back to full guard.
Griffin is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Maia trying to control but Griffin is working from the bottom.
Griffin tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Griffin working for a triangle but Maia defends it easily.

Griffin working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Maia doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Maia manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Maia drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Maia jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Maia gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Griffin counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Maia looking to control.

Maia has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Griffin is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Maia.

Sloppy strikes there by Griffin.

Griffin is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Maia knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Griffin looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Maia is avoiding damage well.
Maia tries to bench press Griffin off him but Griffin keeps the position.

Maia is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Maia gets back to half guard.
Maia trying to control from the bottom.
Maia tries to roll over but Griffin keeps him under control.
Griffin missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Griffin wants to pass to mount but Maia is defending the position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Griffin shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Maia counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Griffin's guard now.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Griffin looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Maia showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Bruno Maia will probably get the nod.

Griffin fails with the takedown

and Maia counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Griffin throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Maia wants to take a breather but Griffin is having none of it.
Maia prevents Griffin from improving his position.
Maia has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Maia moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Griffin has worked his arm free - good work by Griffin!

Maia thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Griffin is trying to get back to half guard.

Maia tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Maia is breathing heavily.
Maia is looking to take a break and control but Griffin is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Griffin tries to improve position but can't.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Maia wants to control but Griffin is keeping him busy.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Griffin shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Griffin showed some decent athleticism there.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Maia is on top in guard.
Maia won't allow Griffin to sweep him here.

Griffin manages to work his way to half guard, despite Maia's best efforts.
Griffin wants to control but Maia is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Maia wants to lay and pray for a moment but Griffin keeps working.

Maia is working for a kimura but Griffin is defending it quite comfortably.
Bruno Maia has got the better of the ground game so far.
Griffin wants to get back to full guard.

Griffin gets back to full guard.

Griffin is looking to sinch up a triangle. Maia throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Griffin's body to avoid the submission. Griffin has instead reached around Maia's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Griffin arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:30 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Stewie Griffin!
