Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jon James! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chris Santi! The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Reed Andrews and Eddie Farnsworth.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! James gets caught flat footed, as Santi shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Santi prevents James from getting back to his feet. Santi throws a big right hand that misses. James tries to land a sweep but no joy. James seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. Santi sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed James's guard. Santi thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed James's head. Santi prevents James from improving his position. Santi perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. James is trying to control but can't.
Santi is controlling the pace.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Let's hope that Santi has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. James is staying active underneath Santi, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. James scores with the left hand. Santi knows he should have avoided that one. Santi shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says James as he avoids it easily. James throws a hook but Santi blocks it. Santi is looking to clinch. Santi decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Santi has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. James moves into full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round. James wants to sweep here but Santi controlling him for the moment. Santi stops James from standing up. Santi is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. James not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Santi is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. James wants to get back to his feet but Santi is in a dominant position and won't allow it. James has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Santi postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. No luck for Santi with that takedown attempt. Santi moves into the clinch successfully.

Santi has James pressed against the cage, preventing James from circling away and getting back to striking at range. Santi is trying to drag James to the mat but James just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Santi gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, James regains guard.

Santi thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. James is trying to buck Santi off. James is trying to get back to his feet.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. James fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Santi on the side of the head. Santi wants to clinch. Santi looks to land a combination but James avoids it well. Santi tries for a takedown but James sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. James lands a nice shot to the body.
Chris Santi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Santi tries to clinch but James is having none of it.

Jon James has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chris Santi. James is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Santi. James connects with a body shot. James lands a nice hook to Santi's body. Santi takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Santi uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by James.

That's three minutes gone in the round. James lands with an uppercut that bounces Santi off the cage and back into rage. Jon James is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Santi moves forwards but James connects with a nice, crisp jab. Santi takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. James connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. James lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. James keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.

Santi pushes James against the cage but James circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. James dips down and scores with a jab to the body. James with a nice cross. A shot to the liver by James. Beautiful body shot. James lands with an overhand left. Santi uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by James.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! James throws a series of strikes that have Santi backpedaling.

Jon James dominated that second round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

James displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Santi. Santi keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

James ducks down and throws a hook to the body. Santi fails with a takedown attempt. James comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. Santi takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

That's two minutes gone in the round. James lands a jab to Santi's midsection. Santi walks into a stiff left hand from James. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. James scores with a body shot.

Santi takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. James cracks Santi with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. Santi doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. James scores with a jab. Santi acknowledges it with a nod of the head. James scores with a three punch combo!

That's three minutes gone in the round. Santi takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

James keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Santi seems to have recovered his senses. James jabs at Santi's body. Nice shot lands for James. Santi ducks under a wild hook from James. Nice defenses there by Santi. James avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Santi walks into a straight right hand from James. Santi tries to move into range but James moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand. Santi shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as James sprawls well. James wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Santi gets slowly back to his feet. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Santi on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
