PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Marcelo Bielsa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rolex Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gracie is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Amon Amart . Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Marcelo Bielsa !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rolex Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Leandro Rodrigues and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracie takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Bielsa is defended easily by Gracie.
Gracie shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Bielsa sprawls well. Bielsa wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Gracie gets slowly back to his feet.
Bielsa tries to work over Gracie's front leg with a kick but Gracie checks it.
Bielsa leaves Gracie with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
A head kick misses from Bielsa .
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bielsa lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.

Gracie throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Bielsa was covering up waiting for the punch and Gracie finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Gracie slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bielsa working for a triangle but Gracie defends it easily.
Bielsa doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Gracie looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Bielsa is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Gracie's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Bielsa looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Gracie passes into half guard under a barage of strikes.

Gracie blocks the strikes from Bielsa .
Bielsa is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Bielsa is looking to control Gracie's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Bielsa avoid being mounted?
Gracie prevents Bielsa from improving his position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Bielsa looks to land a right hand but Gracie moved out of range.
Gracie slips a jab and a cross from Bielsa .
Bielsa throws a right and a left that Gracie avoids nicely.
Bielsa looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Bielsa lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Gracie circles away quickly and effectively.
Gracie slips a jab and a cross from Bielsa .
Bielsa swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Gracie checks the leg kick.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Bielsa lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Gracie has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Gracie and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
A nice inside leg kick there by Bielsa . That's going to slow Gracie down.
Bielsa throws a nice looking combination but Gracie bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Gracie blocks the body kick.
Bielsa rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Gracie moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Bielsa tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Bielsa misses with the combination.
Bielsa is breathing heavily.
Bielsa wants to clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marcelo Bielsa dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Bielsa is looking to clinch.
Bielsa misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Bielsa doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Gracie counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Gracie wanted to stand there but Bielsa had control of the position.

Bielsa has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Gracie has passed into side control.

Bielsa is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Bielsa is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Gracie asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Bielsa tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Gracie trying to control the position but Bielsa is working away.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Bielsa shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Gracie counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Gracie winds up and cracks Bielsa with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Gracie wants to stand but Bielsa has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gracie trying to control the action but Bielsa is working from the bottom.
Gracie passes the guard and advances to mount!
Gracie takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Bielsa regains half guard.

Gracie moves into side control, avoiding the strikes from Bielsa .
Bielsa being controlled for a moment.
Gracie tries to move to mount but Bielsa blocks the move with his legs.
Gracie controlling the position from side mount.
Bielsa is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Bielsa tries to escape but Gracie is in control.
You can see the frustration on Bielsa 's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Gracie postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Gracie tries to advance to mount but can't.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Bielsa throws a sloppy head kick and Gracie moves out of range easily.
Gracie on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Gracie is breathing heavily.
Gracie checks the leg kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rolex Gracie showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Bielsa is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Bielsa is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Gracie still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Gracie has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!
Bielsa seems a little lost for a moment, as Gracie dominates the positioning.

Bielsa is looking for a sweep.
Bielsa wants to control but Gracie postures up.
You can see the frustration on Bielsa 's face as Gracie controls the position.
Bielsa misses with an elbow from the bottom.
Bielsa tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Gracie wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Gracie wants to control but Bielsa is keeping him busy.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Gracie tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Rolex Gracie has got the better of the ground game so far.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Bielsa pushes Gracie up against the cage in a clinch.

Bielsa escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Bielsa misses with a few strikes there.
Gracie tries for a takedown but Bielsa sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

and Gracie counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Bielsa looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Gracie puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Bielsa has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Gracie is working away from the top position though.
Gracie controlling the pace.
Bielsa is trying to control but can't.
Gracie looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Gracie is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Bielsa wants to get back to full guard but Gracie has passed into side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Bielsa is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Bielsa really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Gracie tries to control but Bielsa wriggling away.

Gracie is working for a guillotine from mount but Bielsa frees his head quite easily.
Gracie takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Gracie wants to control the pace but Bielsa is squirming around nicely.

And that's the end of the fight!
Rolex Gracie comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Gracie has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
