PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between David Jonesy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dewey Cox (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jonesy comes into the arena with CASH MONEY blaring out of the sound system. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, David Jonesy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dewey Cox!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Cecil Peabody and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cox tries to move into range but Jonesy moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Jonesy listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
Jonesy ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Cox tries to clinch there but Jonesy circles away.
Cox throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Cox throws a leg kick which misses Jonesy's front leg but catches the back leg as Jonesy tries to avoid it.
Cox throws a right hand that Jonesy ducks under and follows up with a left that Jonesy also avoids with ease.
Cox tries to clinch up.
Cox fails to land with a series of punches.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Jonesy.

Jonesy goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Cox has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Jonesy but great work by Cox.
Cox working the head with strikes.
Jonesy is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Cox is looking to take a break and control but Jonesy is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Jonesy is trying to stand up here but Cox is controlling him well.
Cox wants to stand up but Jonesy has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Jonesy kicks Cox off and gets back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jonesy checks a low kick from Cox.
Jonesy slips a jab and a cross from Cox.
Cox takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Jonesy ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Cox moves away.
Cox throws a one two combo.


It looks like David Jonesy has been cut.
Jonesy rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Cox moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Jonesy closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Jonesy landing a few strikes.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Jonesy tries to move to mount but Cox blocks the move with his legs.
Jonesy remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
The ground and pound from Jonesy seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cox is pushing Jonesy's head away, looking to escape. Jonesy manages to hold on to the position though.
Cox on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Cox tries to escape but Jonesy is in control.
Jonesy controlling the position from side mount.
Cox really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jonesy. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Jonesy in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Jonesy creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Cox sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Jonesy trying to control the position but Cox is working away.
Cox is trying to get back to his feet.
Jonesy is working Cox over with some ground and pound from side control.
Jonesy in side control, throwing shots but Cox defends.
Cox is being controlled here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jonesy is working to tighten is grip on Cox's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Cox has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Jonesy is really squeezing tight and eventually Cox passes out! Jonesy breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:04 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). David Jonesy!
