Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Chad Benavidez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rahman Mahamud! The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, John Mangel and Steve Erwin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mahamud tries to keep at a distance but Benavidez has taken the fight into the clinch. Mahamud looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Mahamud tries to break free but Benavidez pushes him back against the ropes. Benavidez escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Benavidez blocks a head kick by Mahamud.
Mahamud throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Mahamud misses with a head kick.
Benavidez shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Mahamud is trying to defend but Benavidez finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Benavidez content to control rather than advance. Benavidez gets to his feet - back to striking we go! Benavidez tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Benavidez shoots in and bounces Mahamud off the ropes to secure the takedown into guard. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Benavidez advances to half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nice strikes from Benavidez there. Benavidez drops an elbow to the side of Mahamud's head. Benavidez has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Mahamud is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Mahamud defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Benavidez. Mahamud is bucking up trying to escape but Benavidez cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Mahamud is rocked! Benavidez looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Mahamud is still in real trouble! Can Benavidez finish him?
That's two minutes gone in the round. Benavidez cracks Mahamud with a big head shot that has him covering up instantly! He's rolled onto his side and the referee has seen enough - this one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:23 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Chad Benavidez!
