Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
13 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Roger Motta! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
10 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Fred Ramon! The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Hugh Johnson and Winston Howard.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ramon takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Motta with a body punch. A glancing blow. Motta goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. Ramon ducks under a wild hook from Motta. Motta throws an overhand right that lands on Ramon's shoulder, as Ramon tries to avoid the shot. Motta punishes Ramon's body with a nice straight punch. Motta swinging wildly here.
Ramon takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt. Motta throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Motta fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Ramon looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Ramon walks into a left hand. Motta shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Ramon's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ramon is looking for a triangle but Motta pushes his legs off easily.
Ramon has an active guard here but Motta has managed to pass into half guard.
Motta is looking to take a break and control but Ramon is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Ramon tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land. Motta is working for a submission of some sort.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Motta is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Ramon defends it well. Motta is trying to work for a kimura but Ramon is defending well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ramon is looking for a sweep. Motta is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Motta is looking for a kimura. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Motta with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Motta trying to control the action but Ramon is working from the bottom. Motta is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Ramon defends it well.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Motta is just content to waste time from the top position. Ramon takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard. Ramon keeping moving, preventing Motta from controlling successfully. Ramon escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Motta gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Motta trying to control the position from guard on top but Ramon is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Ramon wants to sweep here but Motta controlling him for the moment. Ramon keeping full guard, as Motta tries to pass.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Motta trying to control the position from guard on top but Ramon is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Ramon is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Motta moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Motta is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Motta working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Ramon doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Ramon manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Ramon is looking to work some ground and pound but Motta has wrist control. Motta controls Ramon momentarily but Ramon frees himself. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Roger Motta dominated that round. That's time! Motta's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Ramon defending well as Motta loads up on a big left hand. Motta lands with a cross. Ramon takes one to the side of the head.
Ramon ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. A nice combination there by Motta.
Motta jabbing away but nothing is landing. Ramon falls off balance throwing a combination
enabling Motta to counter with a crisp jab. Motta lunges at Ramon with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Ramon's hand. Motta stuns Ramon with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. Roger Motta seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
That's one minute gone in the round. Motta connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. Motta scores with a hook. Motta scores with a jab. Ramon acknowledges it with a nod of the head. Motta digs a good body shot into Ramon's ribs. Motta throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Ramon. Motta lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Ramon tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. The fighters circle momentarily. Motta darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. Ramon walks into a left hand. Motta works the jab nicely. Motta connects with a jab.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Motta lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head. Motta swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Motta has a takedown stuffed. Motta is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot. Ramon takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Ramon is breathing heavily. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Motta scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Fred Ramon is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Ramon on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Ramon moves in looking to clinch but Motta pushes him off. A jab from Motta does it's job there. Danga de danga de dang - Motta scores with a four punch combination!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ramon has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Motta finds it's way round the side to connect with Ramon's head. Ramon takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Ramon throws a right and a left that both miss. Motta slips a straight right by Ramon. Motta throws a series of punches but Ramon moves out of range. Motta looks to land a left hand but Ramon moved out of range nicely. Motta stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. Nice shot lands for Motta. Ramon misses with the combination.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Motta connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Motta lands the left hand. Motta fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Ramon throws an overhand right that lands on Motta's shoulder, as Motta tries to avoid the shot. A jab lands there for Motta. Motta lands a jab to the head.
Motta scores with the left hand. Ramon knows he should have avoided that one. Ramon takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Motta swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Motta lands a nice shot that snaps Ramon's head back.

Roger Motta dominated that second round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.
Motta throws a series of strikes that have Ramon backpedaling.
Motta tests Ramon's chin there with a solid looking shot. Ramon is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Motta throws a hook but Ramon avoids it easily. Ramon pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Motta lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. Some wild striking there from Motta.

Motta connects with a right hand. Ramon shakes it off. Motta decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Motta is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Ramon can do to turn this around? Motta is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Motta is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Ramon looking for a sweep. Not yet Ramon, not yet. Ramon is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Ramon takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Motta drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Motta jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Motta trying to control the position from guard on top but Ramon is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Motta is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Ramon is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Ramon has escaped and now he's on top! Motta is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Ramon defends well. Motta had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Ramon defends it easily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ramon stands up from guard. Let's bang! Motta misses with a straight right. No joy there for Motta, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Motta scores with a hook to the body. Ramon takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Motta!
Roger Motta is winning the standup battle so far. Motta throws a shot from downtown. Ramon moves away and avoids it. Roger Motta is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Motta shoots in looking for a takedown. Ramon tries to sprawl out of it but Motta keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Ramon manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Motta fails with the takedown. Fred Ramon has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Motta looks to score with a jab to the body but Ramon is just out of range. Motta scores with a jab to the jaw. Motta throws a hook but Ramon blocks it. Motta lands with an overhand left. Motta lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

Roger Motta is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Ramon throws a big shot that misses.
And that's the end of the fight! Roger Motta showed his dominance in that final round. Well Motta has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
