Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Clark Channel! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Randjob Gracie! The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Winston Howard and Damien Edna.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gracie throws a nice looking combination but Channel bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Channel defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Gracie. Channel looks to throw the jab but Gracie is out of range. Gracie looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Gracie shoots for a double leg takedown but Channel sprawls well. He's pushed Gracie's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Clark Channel has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Randjob Gracie. Channel pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Gracie throws a head kick but Channel moves out of range.
No luck for Gracie with that takedown attempt. Gracie takes a swing at Channel's ribcage but misses. Gracie feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Channel is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Gracie drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Gracie jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Gracie looks gassed! Channel is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Gracie is controlling him. Gracie drops back looking for a leg! Channel is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Channel manages to kick Gracie off! Gracie jumps back into Channel's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gracie in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Channel knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Gracie on the ground. Gracie prevents Channel from getting back to his feet. Gracie postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Gracie looking to pass the guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Gracie is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Channel is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Gracie pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Channel is keeping the position for now. Gracie drops back looking for a leg! Channel is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Channel manages to kick Gracie off! Gracie jumps back into Channel's guard. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Gracie accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Channel wants to stand but Gracie is controlling the position.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Channel lands with a slapping head kick.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gracie misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
A combination from Gracie does no damage. Gracie with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Channel to score with a decent uppercut. Channel lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Gracie changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Channel tries to avoid it but Gracie manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Channel to the ground. Channel escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Gracie looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Channel throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Channel lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Gracie backs up against the cage.
Channel throws a sloppy head kick and Gracie moves out of range easily. Channel throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Channel tries to clinch there but Gracie circles away.
Channel throws out a loose jab but Gracie uses good head movement to avoid it. Channel thuds his right hand into Gracie's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters. Gracie shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Gracie in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Channel keeping full guard, as Gracie tries to pass. Channel is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Gracie pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Channel is keeping the position for now. Gracie stops Channel from standing up. Gracie works over Channel with some ground and pound from guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Clark Channel dominated that round. That's time! Back to the action!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Gracie is defended easily by Channel. Gracie uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Channel.
Gracie misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Channel tries to clinch but Gracie moves out of range. Gracie gets the takedown into side control. Channel tries to escape but Gracie is in control. Gracie tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Gracie has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Gracie throwing strikes but missing, from side control. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Channel is trying to escape and get back to his feet. Gracie is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Channel is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Gracie working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Gracie thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Channel is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Gracie is controlling him well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Gracie goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Channel has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Gracie but great work by Channel. Gracie is trying to work for a sweep but Channel has mounted him! Channel stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing. Channel scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction. Clark Channel seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Channel misses the jab. Clark Channel is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Channel throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Gracie. Channel scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one. Channel throws a hook but Gracie avoids it easily. Channel throws out a loose jab but Gracie uses good head movement to avoid it. Gracie throws a sloppy head kick and Channel counters by clinching up. Channel manages to break the clinch.
Horrible takedown by Gracie or perhaps it was just good defense by Channel which made him look bad. Clark Channel has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Randjob Gracie.

Channel throws a lazy right hand but Gracie sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Gracie stuns Channel with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. Channel throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Gracie's head. Channel misses with an uppercut. Gracie saw that one coming. Channel lands a glancing blow to the side of Gracie's head. Channel misses the jab. Channel throws a jab when Gracie was well out of range. Gracie has his takedown stuffed and Channel counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Gracie thinking. Gracie on the wrong end of a nice jab. Channel misses with a looping left. Gracie shoots in for a takedown but Channel shows good takedown defense. The fight moves into the clinch position. Channel lands an elbow that stopped Gracie in his tracks for a moment.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Channel's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Channel falls off balance throwing a combination
and Gracie counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Channel wants to get back to his feet. Gracie not landing any meaningful shots this time. Gracie is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Channel is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
