PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sammy Sullivan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Horace Oxface (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Oxface is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Immigraniada by Gogol Bordello. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Sammy Sullivan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Horace Oxface!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Viktor Lagutenko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A big right from Sullivan misses.
Sullivan throws a right and a left that Oxface avoids nicely.
Sullivan throws a big shot that misses.
Sullivan stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Sullivan wants it to stay on the feet.

Oxface closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Sullivan did well to prevent Oxface getting side control.
Oxface passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Sullivan!
Oxface throwing strikes here but Sullivan is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

Oxface looking for a guillotine from mount but Sullivan is having none of it.
Sullivan tries to lock up and control but Oxface gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Oxface goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Sullivan turns into him and now he's in Oxface's guard.
Sullivan knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Oxface on the ground.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Oxface looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Oxface throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Sullivan will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Oxface escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Sullivan gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Sullivan lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Sullivan wants to get up but he can't break Oxface's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Oxface wants to sweep here but Sullivan controlling him for the moment.

Sullivan stands up and waves to Oxface to follow him.
Sammy Sullivan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Oxface shoots for a double leg takedown but Sullivan sprawls well. He's pushed Oxface's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Oxface fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Sullivan sprawls well initially but Oxface persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Sullivan on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Sullivan tries to get out of the position.
Sullivan trying to hold on to Oxface's head to control him but Oxface postures up.
Sullivan keeping hold of Oxface's head, controlling as best he can.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Oxface is looking for a kimura here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Oxface is working for a submission of some sort.
Sullivan wants to get back to his feet.
Oxface is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Oxface drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Oxface jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Sullivan really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Oxface tries to free his leg and advance position but Sullivan is retaining full guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Sullivan stuffs the takedown attempt from Oxface. Oxface gets slowly back to his feet.
Sammy Sullivan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Horace Oxface.
Sullivan swinging wildly here.
Sullivan will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Sullivan misses with a jab, cross combination.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Horace Oxface dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Oxface takes one to the side of the head.
Oxface fails to land the takedown.

Oxface shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Oxface was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Sullivan tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Sullivan has left one of his arms exposed and Oxface doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Sullivan screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:02 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Horace Oxface!
