Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mark Hughes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brandon Fernandez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brandon Fernandez struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 172.2lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mark Hughes! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Brandon Fernandez! The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Marco Blurström and Matti Vanhoillinen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hughes clinches. A shot in the inside from Fernandez. Both guys are working to get underhooks. Fernandez is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Fernandez wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Hughes has him pressed against the cage. Fernandez wants to break free but Hughes has control.
A frustrated look appears on Fernandez's face as he tries to break the clinch. Fernandez tries to stall but Hughes uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

Hughes has hold of one of Fernandez's legs. Fernandez is fighting the takedown attempt but Hughes gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard. Fernandez keeping full guard, as Hughes tries to pass. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Fernandez can do anything to dispel that myth. Hughes is looking to advance position but Fernandez has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount! Hughes is looking to get to half guard. BOOM! Fernandez connects with a massive shot to the dome!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Fernandez has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Hughes's face.

Fernandez raining down shots from the mount! Hughes sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though. Hughes is looking to improve his position.
Hughes slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Fernandez thows a big elbow that misses. Hughes will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Fernandez stands over his opponent and dives in with a flying punch! Hughes throws up his legs and catches Fernandez in a triangle! Oh this looks tight! Fernandez tries to escape but he's forced to tap! Wow, fantastic work there by Hughes! That came out of nowhere!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:02 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Mark Hughes!
