Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nathan Hakamalu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Elmer Esperada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hakamalu's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Thunderstruck. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hakamalu shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Esperada pinned against the cage. Esperada gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Esperada uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Hakamalu.
Hakamalu swats away the attempt to clinch by Esperada.
Esperada slaps away a takedown attempt from Hakamalu, before circling back to the center of the mat.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Hakamalu.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nathan Hakamalu. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hakamalu fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Esperada manages to avoid it.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Hakamalu throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Esperada's waist but Esperada gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Hakamalu off to one side.

Hakamalu is looking to wear down Esperada with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Esperada avoids a punch combination nicely.
Hakamalu shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Esperada as he jumps to the side.

Hakamalu throws a right hand that Esperada ducks under and follows up with a left that Esperada also avoids with ease.

Esperada tries to clinch there but Hakamalu circles away.
No luck for Esperada with that takedown attempt.
Hakamalu scores with a hook to the body. Esperada takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

Hakamalu uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.

and Esperada counters with a nice double leg into side control. Hakamalu won't be happy with that.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Esperada is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Hakamalu sees it coming and defends easily.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Hakamalu moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.


It looks like Elmer Esperada has been cut.

Hakamalu lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.

Hakamalu throws a big shot that misses.
Hakamalu closes the distance and clinches up with Esperada, looking for a takedown. Hakamalu pushes Esperada against the ropes but Esperada circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

The fight stays on the outside here - Esperada looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Esperada shoots in for a takedown but Hakamalu shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Esperada shoots in but no luck this time.

Hakamalu looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Esperada is looking for a sweep. Hakamalu is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Esperada is not content to let Hakamalu control the position.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Hakamalu cracks Esperada with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Hakamalu is landing with some decent strikes but Esperada is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Hakamalu moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Esperada has worked his arm free - good work by Esperada!

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Horrible takedown by Hakamalu or perhaps it was just good defense by Esperada which made him look bad.

It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Hakamalu here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

Hakamalu throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Esperada stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Hakamalu connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Esperada's hands.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Hakamalu drops Esperada with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Esperada looks back up at him and smiles so Hakamalu waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.


Esperada is rocked!
Hakamalu cracks Esperada with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends Esperada tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but Hakamalu pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! Esperada is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:22 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Nathan Hakamalu!
