PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Morrison (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andrew Freeman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, John Morrison!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Andrew Freeman!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Freeman closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Morrison to the mat! Morrison manages to get full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Morrison has Freeman pulled in close to control his posture.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Morrison wants to sweep here but Freeman controlling him for the moment.
Freeman stops Morrison from standing up.

Freeman pushes down on Morrison's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Freeman is keen to just control but Morrison is a slippery customer.
Morrison is looking to escape.
Morrison preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Morrison is trying to get back to full guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Freeman wants to control from the top but Morrison keeps moving.

Morrison working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Freeman doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Freeman manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Morrison tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Morrison is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Morrison is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Morrison is breathing heavily.
Freeman is trying to control but can't.
Freeman wants to get back to his feet.
Morrison is just content to waste time from the top position. Freeman takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Morrison stops Freeman from standing up.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Morrison could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Morrison escapes and gets back to his feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Freeman shoots in for a takedown but Morrison shows good takedown defense.
Morrison gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Freeman counters with a takedown into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Andrew Freeman dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Morrison tries to clinch up but Freeman circles away and keeps his distance.

Freeman wants to control from the top but Morrison keeps moving.

Freeman stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Morrison swivels though and keeps the full guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Morrison holds on and takes a little breather.

Morrison pushes Freeman off and gets back to his feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Freeman throws a half hearted mid kick.
Morrison with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Freeman tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Morrison paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Freeman does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Morrison takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.


It looks like John Morrison has been cut.
Freeman shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Morrison but Morrison pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Freeman throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Morrison.

Morrison closes the distance and clinches.

Morrison breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Freeman moves into the clinch.
A frustrated look appears on Freeman's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Morrison goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Freeman looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Freeman fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Morrison, pushing him back against the cage.
Morrison lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Freeman backwards.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Morrison looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

The cut man is working on John Morrison's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Freeman shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Morrison defends it nicely.

Morrison shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Morrison was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Morrison is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Freeman is surviving well by controlling Morrison's body position as best he can.
Freeman tries to get back to half guard but can't.

John Morrison is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Freeman ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

Freeman fails with an attempt to clinch.
Morrison closes this distance looking for a takedown but Freeman circles away.
Freeman tries to clinch up but Morrison circles away and keeps his distance.

Morrison gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Freeman to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Freeman really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Morrison. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Freeman wants to control from the top but Morrison keeps moving.

Morrison seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Freeman working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Freeman has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Morrison is proving hard to escape from.

Freeman gets to his feet. Morrison looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Freeman dives in and grabs Morrison's left leg, looking for a takedown. Morrison pushes down on Freeman's head and hops out.
Freeman tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Morrison was well out of range. Poor timing from Freeman.

Morrison closes the distance and clinches.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Freeman tries a knee to the head but Morrison blocks it.

Morrison jumps guard and drags Freeman to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Morrison pushes Freeman off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Morrison shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Morrison not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Morrison stands up from guard. Let's bang!

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Freeman.
John Morrison has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Andrew Freeman.

Morrison is in close to Freeman's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Freeman wants to get back to his feet but Morrison is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Morrison stands up from Freeman's guard - Morrison perhaps looking for a knockout.

And that's the end of the fight!
John Morrison showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Morrison has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
