PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jimmy Corn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anderson Aldo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Anderson Aldo told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jimmy Corn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Aldo throws out a leg kick but Corn moves out of range and Aldo only half commits.
Corn takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Aldo throws a nice head kick!


It looks like Jimmy Corn has been cut.
Aldo scores with a kick to the body.
Corn is breathing heavily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Aldo tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Aldo feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Corn's calf.
A chopping leg kick lands by Aldo.
Aldo swings away with a leg kick that misses.
A nice inside leg kick there by Aldo. That's going to slow Corn down.

Aldo takes the fight into the clinch.
A battle for position here, against the cage.
Aldo lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!
Aldo misses with a knee strike.
Aldo throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Corn blocks it with crossed arms.
Aldo with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Aldo goes for a takedown in the clinch but Corn prevents it.

Aldo tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Corn keeps control of Aldo as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Corn is pressed up against the cage. Aldo has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Corn down to the mat. Corn avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Aldo tries to clinch but Corn moves out of range.
Aldo throws a series of punches but Corn avoids them all with ease.

Aldo instigates a clinch.
Aldo tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Aldo looking to throw knees to the head but Corn is blocking nicely.
Aldo connects with a knee to the head.
Aldo tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Aldo throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Corn blocks it with crossed arms.
Corn drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Aldo gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Corn wants the takedown. Aldo is fighting it off but Corn persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Aldo's guard against the cage.

Aldo keeping moving, preventing Corn from controlling successfully.
Corn won't allow Aldo to get back to his feet.
Corn is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Corn wants to control from the top but Aldo keeps moving.
Corn connects with a couple of short punches.

Corn missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Corn throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Aldo was covering up waiting for the punch and Corn finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Aldo is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Corn ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Corn no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Corn working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Aldo.

Corn has a closed guard, preventing Aldo from standing up.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Aldo postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Corn is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Aldo, into his guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Corn's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Aldo looking for a guillotine here but Corn defends easily.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Corn is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Anderson Aldo dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Jimmy Corn's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Aldo misses with a head kick.

Corn scores with a takedown into Aldo's guard.
Corn is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Corn throws a big right hand that misses.
Corn trying to control the position from guard on top but Aldo is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Aldo tries to strike from the bottom.

Aldo has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Corn can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Aldo is breathing heavily.
Corn sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Corn loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Aldo wants to stand up but Corn is controlling him.
Corn throws and elbow that misses. Aldo uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Corn's guard. Nice move by Aldo!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Aldo looking to pass the guard.
Aldo looking to sit in guard and control but Corn gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Corn slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Corn trying to control but Aldo is working from the bottom.
Corn is working Aldo over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Aldo is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Corn is aware though and is defending well.

Aldo looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Corn in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Aldo wants to get back to his feet but Corn is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Corn works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Corn working the head and body with strikes.

Corn is controlling the pace.
Aldo has hold of Corn's hands but Corn slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Corn works his foot free and advances to mount.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Corn trying to control but he's not successful this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Aldo throws a low kick but Corn avoids it.
An inside leg kick from Aldo misses.
Aldo is looking to score with low kicks.

Corn changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Aldo looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Corn wants to lay and pray for a moment but Aldo keeps working.
Aldo is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Corn in side control lands a decent elbow.
Aldo being controlled for a moment.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Aldo is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Aldo struggling a bit here.
Corn lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Corn working the head with strikes.
Aldo wants to get back to his feet but Corn is dominant here and he's now got Aldo's back!

Aldo is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Corn.

Aldo controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.
A bit of a pause in the action here. Corn controlling the positon.

Corn has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Aldo.
Aldo holding both Corn 's hands and preventing any damage.
Aldo trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
Aldo trying to get back to his feet but Corn is in full control for now.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
The referee is taking a good look at Aldo as he is on the wrong end of some big shots from Corn!
Corn connects with a series of strikes and the referee is calling for Aldo to escape the position.
Jimmy Corn overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Corn has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Aldo's body.
Aldo is taking damage to the body and head.
Corn wants to control but Aldo is keeping busy.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jimmy Corn showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Corn has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
