Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Phil French! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Danny Kane! The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, James Ackerman and Donald Grub.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! French shoots in and drives through. Kane sprawls well. Kane lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but French circles away quickly and effectively. French fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Kane wants to clinch up but French keeps it at a distance. French looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Kane is fending him off so far but French persists. Nope, Kane circles away and we're back to standing. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Phil French. That's going to take a lot out of him. A jab from Kane finds it's way through French's defenses. French closes the distance looking to clinch and Kane decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in French's guard. French escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kane gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. French has a closed guard, preventing Kane from standing up. French looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kane is one step ahead there.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Kane scores with a nice strike.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Kane tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and French is able to avoid easily. Kane wants to clinch and French counters with a nice double leg into side control. Kane won't be happy with that. French trying to control the position but Kane is working away. French really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Kane is pushing French's head away, looking to escape. French manages to hold on to the position though. French misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Kane tries to work over French's front leg with a kick but French checks it. Kane misses with a wild combination.
French clinches up with Kane and pushes him back against the cage. French jumps guard but Kane stands there with French around his waist. French gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Kane lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh. French ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. French no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. French wants to get back to his feet but Kane is in a dominant position and won't allow it. French has an active guard here but Kane has managed to pass into half guard.

A close round but Danny Kane will probably get the nod. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Kane is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. French knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. French avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Kane. Kane stands up.

and French counters with a shoot takedown. Kane fights it but they end up in guard. French gets to his feet - Kane follows without any prompting. No luck with that takedown attempt from French. Kane throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Kane misses with a body kick. Kane uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. French circles away from the clinch attempt and French counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by French.

Kane comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush. Kane is trying to force a seperation but French has the dominant position. Kane wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. French escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

French gets a clinch. An uppercut on the inside fails to land for French. Kane's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. French throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Kane stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Kane scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. French doesn't seem bothered though. Kane misses with a kick to the body.
French looks to clinch and Kane counters with a one-two to the body. French shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Kane sprawls well. Kane wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. French gets slowly back to his feet. No luck for French with that takedown attempt. Kane fails to land with a series of punches.

French can't do much from the bottom here. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. French tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Kane wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Kane decides to stand back up. It's got to the stage where if one of these guys blows hard enough, the other might fall over. Kane is not content to let French control the position. Kane gets back to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as French accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. French is looking to stand up but Kane won't let him. Kane manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
French really wants to buck Kane off and get back to his feet. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kane avoids the attempt from French to control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kane controlling from mount. The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Kane cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
French is in all sorts of trouble here.
French tries to lock up and control but Kane gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Kane pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. French wants to hold on but Kane pushes him away. Kane get's back to his feet. French fails with a takedown attempt. French tries to bum rush Kane with a series of wild strikes but Kane uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Kane goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. French wants to clinch up but Kane keeps it at a distance. French tries to keep at a distance but Kane has taken the fight into the clinch. French tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Kane smiles and moves away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close fourth round but Danny Kane will probably get the nod - 10:9. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

French tries to clinch but Kane is having none of it. Kane darts in and clinches French up against the cage. Both of our modern day gladiators look out of it here - an gruelling 5 rounds of action taking it's toll on them, no doubt. Kane is looking to break free of the clinch but French has double underhooks. French breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

That's three minutes gone in the round. French is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Kane's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Kane's back! French lands with a big left hand that may well have hurt his opponent. Can Kane hold on?!

French is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Kane is defending well though. French let's go of the attempt for now. French is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. French scores with punches and elbows. Danny Kane is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. French trying to control. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Kane is trying to break free.
And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to Danny Kane. I think Kane has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
